Hi All,

I've been thinking about getting my motorbike license.

Mainly due to improve my car driving, as I'm told by many bikers it greatly improves your driving where you are a lot more aware of everything and understand the road better etc.

Anyone else think it would be a good idea? or a waste of money?

I won't be getting a bike if I do it, but would like to no peoples opinions :)

Waste of money unless you intend to get a bike. plus you'd need to buy helmet and gear to sit bike test/training so that would be wasted also. However by doing the training you may end up wanting one ;)

Well I have a helmet and gear because I ride the crossers and Dad has a bike as well and ride on the back there.

And yeah I probably will but I WILL kill myself on one :p

Many riders are a lot more observant than your average driver, but im sure that comes with riding experience, not just with taking your test and having a little practice.

If you only intend to get your licence and then stop, then I dont think you will gain anything at all in terms of driving ability.

You should do an advanced driving course if you feel you are unsure of your driving skills.

I have been thinking about doing my bike test too. In the past I've never even wanted to get on a bike, but late last year it just started appealing to me. Kinda plan to do it this summer, unless other things get in the way.

I say go for it - what harm can it do? It's fairly cheap to learn and pass your test I reckon (I think I estimated £400 all in) - the expensive part is once you have passed, and need to get a bike and the gear etc. But if you don't plan to do that (at least not straight away) where's the down side?

If you dont plan to get a bike, then whats the point.

Yer, you learn a bit more observation. The main thing it's done to me is I tend to look over my sholder more instead of just looking in my mirrors.

I think that if you did your test, you'd end up wanting a bike.

TBH if you don't want a bike whats the point in paying for doing a licence? You may as well do an advanced driving course..

But then again it will add another class to your licence also then you have the option of getting one in the future.
