but whats the chepist kit you can get/find. dont mind pds based, mobile phone or all in one unit. Only be used once a month or so doesn't need to be the best... Just basicly the cheapist..

I recently refreshed my satnav, completely replaced it.

Cost me around £110 in total, that was for a new (but from ebay) Dell Axim X5 which is a decent 400mhz PDA with great screen, and a sirfstar3 CF GPS receiver which is fantastic, again from ebay.

Excellent solution which didnt break the bank.

Have tomtom5 on me mobile and a gps reciever from ebay - Fantastic bit of kit .

(added you to msn btw if your wondering who added you)

I used to have a PDA based solution, but it was just too fiddly, try getting a tomtom one.
£200 ish.

I'm of a firm belief satnav is causing a decline in our manhood! we should all have an AA road map in the car and be happy with it...resorting to such womanly means as a computer telling us which way to go is degrading!!

shame on you all ;)

So probably not worth having a brick phone just so I can get Sat nav then...
I got a O2 Mini S.

Setting it up in the first place is not straightforward, but once thats done its pretty simple. I just put it sideways on my dash, turn on the GPS unit, and press the tom tom icon.

From then on, you wouldn't be able to tell its not a standalone unit. Plus its handy having it warn you of speed cameras. And it will tell you how long your journey will take, and how long is left etc.
