hi guys i have recently got a new job and am earning a lot more money than before. i was thinking about joining a gym. i would like to no if anyone is a member of any gyms and how expensive they are and how they are in general i guess. i have looked at a few on the net but still unsure. i was thinking about david lloyed or fitnes first!!

thanks

there are LOADS of people here that go to the gym, best place to check is the sports section of the forum, nearly every other post is a gym post :p

I can't say anything about expense, but I advise you to join one, it can be really good. If you haven't ever really used a gym before I advise getting a trial membership (sometimes free), and then think about how you like it.

i've joined the local councils gym (Angus Council) at £27 p/m its decent as i can use the gym as much as i want, problem is i've found i was already fairly fit by doing the odd dumbell/push-ups and doing pull-ups on my door frame. and i dont really enjoy running on the machines. tbh i should really get round to cancelling it as im currently unemployed and could do without the extra expense! :o

I joined a new branch of gym last year called "U-Fitness", if you get a joint membership with your partner, it worked out as half the price of fitness first.

Thats only £22 a month to pay to feel guilty about not going whilst sat on your ass boozing :/

One thing to mention though is that is quite possibly the WORST possible time you could think of to join a gym as everyone and their dog joins in January to work off the "seasonal excess". I'd recommend going running or getting on your bike during January and February and joining in March, as all the fairweather gym-ers will have given up by then and you can actually get on a piece of equipment at the appropriate point in your programme ;).

The gyms are going to be packed from Jan when everybody starts their resolutions to lose weight. The gyms get back to normal around Feb/March when they give up.

Edit: Ahh, didn't read that post above :)

It depends on what you are after from a gym... if you're just starting then a sports centre gym might be more appropriate - it would also have a swimming pool and possibly other facilities.
