Currently have a archos 605 as my mp3 player but its to big just to use as an mp3 player, so I thinkign about getting an ipod. But I really dont want to use itunes, which I why I got the archos, as you can just use it as an external device.

Is there any software you can use instead of using itunes?

Ive had about 4 iPods, and never used iTunes.

I use Anapod Explorer, which is a drag and drop system, similar to Windows Explorer.

This sounds perfect, I just want to be able to use it like my archos. If I want to swap music with mates ets I can just plug my archos in and transfer what I want.

I gather most on here own an ipod and Iam thinking off getting one, just need a few questions answering if poss.

When your listening to a DJ mix ie a continuous 60 min .mp3, is there anyway to skip to say 30mins into the mix, or do you just have to cut the mix up on your pc using a mp3 splitter?

If your listening to a mix then turn your ipod, when you turn it back on can you carry on listening to where you left off?

Can you play .avi's on it aswell?

Thinking off getting an 8GB nano, as ive got a archos 605 160GB and just like the idea off its small size and weight to carry around with me.

You can use the ipod as an external device, just select 'enable disk use'. It'll then show up as an external storage device...

As for not using itunes, I dont know if you're using mac os or windows - but itunes really is second to none on the mac platform..

Tom

As iam currently travelling my plan would be too copy some music from my archos to a pc then transfer it to the ipod just using the ipod as an external device, that possiable?

Is there an advantage to using itunes rather than just using the ipod as an external device?

Last thing ive seen a 8GB for 120pounds, in NZ which seems to be the going rate in the UK. My last leg off my trip I will be going to Thailand does anyone know if they are much cheaper there?

Apologize for all the questions by the way. :)

hhhmmmm, seen the 80GB for 136 pounds and the 8GB for 109, not sure what to get?! :S

Is the screen the same size on the 80 and 8GB models? Edit half an inch different. What gen are the ipod and nano upto at the mo?

Can you use itunes with any ipod?

How long does it take to charge the ipod via usb, as I doubt I will be able to get a UK charger for it here in NZ.

The warrenty is worldwide, isnt it? There would'nt be any problems with my getting it from NZ and using it mostly in the UK?

Thanks again everyone. Think I will use itunes for the time being as ive not got access to my own PC for the time iam travelling and Iam hoping I can copy files form my archos to a pc then to my ipod via itunes.

I will give Anapod Explorer ago when I return back to the UK.

Someone posted this in another forum

The only thing you'll have to be aware of is that iPods are nototrious for not liking MP3's that are corrupted (even just a little bit). Other MP3 players will play the files no problem, but you might find that tracks that have not been ripped with iTunes are a hit-and-miss affair.
Unfortunately, I have had to re-rip lots of tracks to get them to play error-free on my iPod.
In saying that, once they are on and playing, the interface and the seamless integration with iTunes makes the iPod worthwhile.

Great for travel.

Make sure you get a multi-currency adaptor and AC charger if you're travelling with it, though.

Hmmmm, any off you guys had problems with your ipods playing .mp3's?

Also can the nano read notepad files on it?
