hi guys

im thinking about upgrading to Gigabit LAN.

I have a IPCOP Firewall PC on my network, it has 2 NICs, the internet goes in and comes back out and goes into a 16 port switch which goes to PCs in the house.

Would the NIC cards on the IPCOP PC have to support Gigabit to get full benefit from Gigabit LAN if i was to buy a Gigabit Switch?

So your IPCop box connects to the internet with one network card, and to the switch with the other, then all the machines connect to the switch?
If that's the case, there's no need to change the network cards. You're unlikely to max out 100Mbps to the internet and traffic to the internet should be all that goes through either network card.

Thats correct mate, sorted, reason being is i am getting a Popcorn Hour HD NMT and i would like to stream HD files initially from my PC to it then later on a NAS Drive.

but having a look at 16 port GB switches to replace my current 100mb one, they are quite dear. so i may just buy a 5 port GB switch and "add" that onto the 16 port switch i have now and then add my PC and the Popcorn hour to it. Just seems a shame to have an extra switch added on :(

This would work yeh?

Thanks mate
