HI guys, im considering a new build later this year although [ive said this the past two years but somehow my rig still holds up very well with 90+ fps in most games with a few settings lowered depending on game].
Anyways im still running an 8600K @4.5 ghz and a 1080TI @ 1440P, my undserstanding the CPU is even a bottleneck for my 1080ti again depending on game.

With the current prime days i was thinking of buying a 4070 , that way i will have the most expensive component in the bank.
I have a few questions.
Will my 650 watt corsair PSU be sufficient?
Is there any real point using it on this rig or should i just bank it for a new build?
Finally can we expect prices to drop further than what is on offer in this prime sale?

Yep.
Bank. 1080Ti is more than enough; 4070 not a worthwhile upgrade for the price.
String. Piece off. How long. Maybe new 7800xt from AMD will shake things up? No one knows.

Power consumption of 4070 is similar or less than your current card. I think they're mostly 8 pin, except for the FE.

It depends on the game, but 1440p gives you a better chance of a decent uplift than 1080p.

There's still far too much old stock to shift, in my opinion, so I can't see them being willing to compress the price points until it is all gone.

There isn't much stock left for the higher cards, 3080s, 3090s, 6950XT, 6900XT, 6800XT. Even 3070s and started to dry up.

That doesn't mean current gen prices will drop though.

A 4070 will give a good boost at 1440 and work with 650w.

Ok bit of a change and possibly a weird one, but a friend suggested i do what he has and keep the 1080ti and run with a good quality CPU.
If i were to go with a new build it would probably be a 7700X or 7800X3D , my friend is running a 13600K with his 1080ti until we see what happens in the GPU market.
Would this be an option?

Expect you'll see a more immediate benefit from upgrading the GPU. But given that state of the graphics card market that might not be bad advice.
