Thinking of a Car Change..

Hey all, just been having a think, and am really looking to think about changing my car sometime soon, brief history, i passed my test in 2000, but only bought a car (my brother's 1.3 '98 fiesta encore) last may (had been driving a lot before then, just in parent's cars) but i'm looking for something with a tad more oomph..

I'm not looking to spend an assload of money so i'm thinking anything within the last 3-4 years is probably out of the question, the thing is i wouldn't mind something a tad sportier before i hit the big 3-0 (26 in a fortnight) and was thinking along the lines of something like (along with dodgy reasons!):

MG ZR 120 Trophy? (I know a lot of people don't rave about whats basically a jazzed up rover, but i've looked the look, and the gf's dad has a 1.4 5 door which i've driven and was pretty smooth)

MR2 (mid 90's model) Something i've always liked, then again i think its the typical guy wanting to move from FWD to something RWD and a bit sportier...

1994-97 Supra (none turbo) Always been a wicked supra fan and was jealous as hell when my brother's friend bought one, the main worry there is economy and insurance though

Hyundai Coupe (99-01ish?) 1.6 and 2.0 options, a colleague had one and loved one, and although most people would say for a sportier fwd a civic would be a better option as they don't seem to be rated that highly?

Porsche 944 (i know, totally random, very old, but i've loved the look forever but would prob just be a pipe dream as not really the best bet for an "upgrade" more a fun 2nd car!)

MG MGF (Have been really fancying a soft-top recently, specially with summer coming, but i wasn't sure really how highly they are rated)

Thats the kinda thing i have been looking around at on autotrader etc.. i know its a small and pretty predictable list, but i've just been having thoughts, haven't researched it much yet but really thinking about it now i've got some more money coming in!

Skoda Octavia vRS Mark 1 - Mostly due too the fact these have lost around £1000-£2000 on a £8000 car in the last year

There are £6k-7k bargains too be had now, and of course the modding potential is brilliant.

I'm really not sure, 2-3k if buying now, 5-6k in a couple months, guess thats including the 1200ish i'd get for the fiesta, hence not looking to spend too much yet, but figured might be worth doing before the gf & i buy a place

theres a big difference in the cars you can get for £3k and £6k lol. I assume by looking at your list that practicality isnt an issue with all those 2 seaters
one suggestion could be an mx-5? you can get them for both ends of your budget, RWD not hugely fast but not slow, and most importantly immense fun to drive

Hmm, not a bad idea, but everytime i see a guy in an MX5 i cringe, although maybe if it were me, i would smile

I don't wanna get something thats gonna blow a giant hole in my insurance, anything too powerful is out of the question, yes i know i mentioned a 3 litre supra, but thats more of a pipedream i imagine!

Practicality for now isn't too much of an issue, parents have a focus, brother has a 307 and gf has a corsa looking at 206's if i need to move something

Besides which the sportier ones would just be for a few years to have had one!

Maybe call the budget 2-4k so i can get some ideas for the summer!

For some reason, browsing around my head keeps going to the MG ZR 120+ and i don't know why, i know its a 25 with a sports kit and alloys, and my head is flying around from one car to the other tonight!

The main downfall with the fiesta is that from mine ot the gf's is the M1, and it shakes and feels a bit uneasy at 75+ and just doesn't have the pull of the 1.8 Focus, 1.6 Jetta TX D) 1.7 Astra TDI i've driven in the past!
