Hey guys, i was contemplating a small upgrade to an AMD X2, my current spec is:

MSI K8 neo Platinum
Enermax Noisetaker ATX 2.0 PSU
2gb geil Value PC3200
Radeon X850 XT 256
AMD 64 3500 Socket 939 w/ arctic 64 cooler
Akasa (forgot model) case, big black case, nice & roomy w/ 2 x 120mm's

i was thinking about a change upto an AMD x2 purely to get ready for vista on a budget and maybe to help out with a dedicated CPU for flight sim 06 in XP for now, i would love to go all out and get a much bigger upgrade but right now i can't afford that so i'm either thinking of an X2 setup without spending "too" much, or a new gfx card as much as i love the X850 it seems to struggle to all hell with FS 2006 and some big lag in WOW when in 40 manners (the main 2 games i play on the pc) but i'm honestly in 2 minds about it all, and wasn't sure which would be a good step to prepare for vista as much as i can within a limited budget.(half the reason i ask this is i tried the vista beta and got quite laggy performance in vista alone)

Thanks

Tim.

Hmmm...haven't upgraded in about 20 months, best go learn what all those are :D hehe

tbh would prefer not to OC atm if poss so would like a system that will burn the nuts off itself at stock :)

Really? hmm, i wasn't under the impression/sure that this board could take a X2, if it could, i would be v happy and would prob pair it up with a scythe ninja, but was under the impression (and from www.msi.com.tw) that it wouldn't take a X2

Sorry to bump this guys, just wondered if anyone could set me straight on this whether my board would take the X2, from what i've read on msi it won't or they may not have updated it?

Don't get an X2. Get a cheap core 2 duo (conroe).

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 £99.99
Gigabyte GA_965P_S3 £79.99
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) Value £139.99 :/

£319.97 +Vat

Hmm, bit over isn't it. Damn costly memory.

That would absolutely whip the X2 though.

That does look nice, but at the same time it is quite a lot, not sure how much i could get for my current cpu/mobo/memory combo :D

And on the other hand, hmm me & bios flashes, never actually done one :) built lots of pc's etc.. but never actually reflashed a bios etc.. :(

Well i might go with an X2 simply due to the price efectiveness right now, the £300 was a top end of what i can spare atm but from what i have read, i will experience a better performance wth the X2 4400 over the 3500 and if the bios is windows flashable then thats altogether better as well.

Would you guys recommend a scythe nina on the X2? Was thinking it would be a nice addition and still come in over £100 cheaper!

Thanks again!

Thanks very much for your advice & help guys :D I'll check out MM and think about the X2 next week when i get paid at the most outside shot :)
