thinking of a new build

raptors arent really worth the money seeing as they dont really offer much more than a normal hd...and buy c2d as most people suggested...i dont think there is much of a difference between say a 5000+ and a e6600 stock but id still get the c2d

fair point, basically its used for everything, tv, films, music, browsing, downloading, gaming, working (occasionally), although the ocuk gts does look like a good card and can overclock upto the bfg OC versions....ill consider it, i guess im just trying to spoil myself rather than being realistic

as for people still yapping on about the raptor, that was the 1st thing dropped from the basket...

EDIT: Heres where im at so far after revisions:

well it looks good, but after hearing what you will be using it for, and that you wont be overclocking, i would suggest some changes

you just need the cheapest core 2 duo compatible board if you arent overclocking, so i would change your mobo, i dont know much about cheap range core 2 duo motherboards so maybe someone else can help you out, all you need is one that will work at stock perfectly

your power supply is more powerful than you need it to be i would reccomend a slight downgrade to the 600W OCZ its only £20 in it so up to you

i would get 2 hard drives, the first should be small (60 GB give or take) this would be your operating system and applications drive, the second drive should be quite large depends on how much stuff you would store on it, and that would be your media drive ( use it for movies, music, pictures, etc ), this way if 1 did ever happen to fail, you could simply switch it out, or if you wanted to take your media with you into a newer pc its an easy transition, the different advantages are many

your case is out of stock so i would get 1 that is slightly cheaper

now this is where the most thought should be put into

you arent a serious gamer by the looks of it and spend most of your time doing other stuff, so i would seriously reccomend taking all the money saved and go for this monitor

Samsung SM-245B 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black
its not out for another month yet, so i would wait until then and remake your pc from scratch, trust me the bigger your monitor is the better the experience, i would even ditch the 8800GTS and get an 8600 GT at £75

i currently use a 32 inch lcd and its fantastic for movies, tv , gaming, etc

ultimately the choice is yours and if you needed the extra graphics power in a years time you should be able to buy an 8800GTX for £150

Seriously i really don't understand all this Core 2 Duo business. If your not going to overclock like MBK said he will not be overclocking, Core 2 Duo has no advantage over AMD at all. If your are going to overclock your system, go C2D all the way.

Within your budget MBK this is what i have come up with:

BenQ FP202W 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ 2.80GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail

Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel

OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80GB ST380815AS SATA-II 8MB Cache

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache

Pioneer DVR-212 18x18 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer ReWriter

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)

Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Silver

Total : £864.62

well yeh like every other avg bloke i work 9-5 :p

and tbh if i have enough time i game, and i prefer games now to look rather nice, aa/af, hdr where available and doable. so i guess that depends on your definition of serious gamer, no i dont attend lans, play in leagues etc etc, but i do play games and like the gfx to be nice if i can afford to
