Hi Folks,

I am thinking of getting a new pc solely for gaming and watching films etc. I don't really know what to get though. I am looking to mainly play CS:S, a bit of UT2k4 and some UT3. I'm not bothered about crysis or cod4 etc (I had a gaming pc about 6 months ago I and played these and didn't really get on with them).

I mostly play game online and so am not that bothered by cutting edge single player games. However, the only pcs I have ever built have been the fastest at the time. Eg I got a new PC for HL2 and doom3, and then another for crysis etc with a gap inbetween where I was travelling/ or had an xbox360.

Since the games I want to play aren't too demanding I don't really know what to get. I don't see any point in getting a really fast pc as there isn't really anything in the pipeline that interests me (except maybe diablo 3).

Should I get a cheapish pc just to do the job or shold I go all out again and get something that's a bit more future proof?

I have a few components already, I am looking to get the following;

Processor
Motherboard
Graphics Card
Ram
22" Monitor
Power supply
Better cpu fan as I'll be overclocking
wireless network card
windows (probably vista)

I have a HDD, DVD-rw, case, keyboard and mouse.

What could you suggest for a good system to play the games mentioned above, as mentioned I will be overclocking to get the best out of the components - budget, no more than £600

Also, what could you suggest for around £900 and would the extra £300 make it that much better?

Thanks!

Matt

EDIT: It's looking pretty difficult to spec a decent enough pc for £600 since the monitor costs around £200 by itself (I'm just trying different combinations of components). I think just a spec for up to £900 will do.

What case do you currently own?

I think it's a Akasa AK-ZEN, I didn't bother selling it with the rest of my old gaming pc as I couldn't be bothered posting it so it's sat in my cellar at the moment

Thanks

Matt

If you aren't that fussed about gaming I would take the first system, change the CPU for a E8400 Wolfdale (£115), the Graphics Card for a Radeon 3850 (£53) and upgrade the RAM to some PC2-8500C5 (£70-£85). Overall additional cost of about £50, system would likely be far more overclockable.
