My current system rig thinking of upgrading to a 3.4ghz quad core AMD which means i would also have to upgrade the motherboard,, please help i have about 350 pound budget on this upgrade, also would i need to upgrade my ram to ddr3 as it is ddr2

many thanks
Rab.

Here this should be very good. The quad is at 3.2 but you can take it to 3.4 and above easy and that cooler will help a lot.The mobo supports max 1600Mhz and the RAM is 2133Mhz but don't worry as the mobo will probably set it to 1600Mhz and its the cheapest DDR3 kit around.

thanks for the recomendation mate however would the crosshair i think its called not be a better option it isnt all that expensive is it ? i currently have 4 gig of ddr2 ram would it fit this board?

many thanks
Rab.

If the RAM is 1066Mhz then it should support it but if its lower then it won't work. And its called Corsair.:D

Well the Asus CrossHair Formula III has a more features but only 2xPCI-Express slots so I think that the indicated one is the better option as it has 4 and thus having more headroom for future upgrades. And again the RAM will also work in the crosshair if its at least 1066Mhz.And sorry about the corsair thing for a sec there I thought you were talking about the RAM.....I'm feeling a little dizzy.

No matethe Asus M4A79T Deluxe has 4xPCI-Express slots.2xPCI-Express(Blue) and 2xPCI-Express(Black).:) Also the mobo supports only Xfire so that means that if you want more than 1 GPU it can only be ATI.

Why would you ever need 4 PCI-E slots anyways?
Pffff....

Just grab 955BE
GA 790
and 4GB of good 1333/1600mhz ram with tight timings

Should be around 300quid last time I checked, the spare 50 you could use for graphic card upgrade (which is the biggest bottleneck in your system ) or for a better cooler.

well i dont want to upgrade my graphics card it should be sufficient enough wouldnt have enough to upgrade my graphics card anyway, bought some thermal compound this mornin to see if it improves my cpu temperature,,

You cant use your old DDR2 RAM with either board, theyre DDR3 so you'd need new RAM (different sockets), alternatively you can look at an AM2+ mobo which supports AM3 CPUs and DDR2 RAM, E.G.
