Hellooo

I'm thinking of changing my Q6600, 4GB DDR, 8800GTS 512 desktop for a laptop of similar performance? I understand the graphics performance wont be the same, but I don't really play games anymore.

Been looking at some i3 and i5 Inspirons/Studios but I'm not really sure what else there is?

I'm fairy sure I want these newer gen chips, but I'll only really be able to spend what I sell my desktop for :/

Any ideas?

Pragmatically you are unlikely to get much second hand for your desktop unless its other specs are very good, and I suspect from the processor and card they may not be good by recent standards. Laptops are usually more expensive for similar performance, certainly for gaming, and so the math really doesn't work out too well if you want to match performance. Your rig will still play most games reasonable well so you might be lucky and find a cash strapped gamer who is prepared to take on an old rig, but everyone wants the new chips.

good luck though

If you want anywhere near that spec or true desktop like performance you should be prepared to spend a fair bit on the lappie IMO
I have a studio 15 and at first thought it was like my desktop but its no where near really even in browsing tasks.
So get the most power you can afford from a reputable brand and you've done the best by yourself

If you can only spend the amount you'll get from selling your kit then you'll be giving up gaming by going with a laptop. To get a half decent dedicated GPU that can cope with more than Source games you're looking at a minimum of £700. For an actual replacement it's more like a grand. For sub-£500 you're looking at either Intel graphics or basic ATi/NVidia IGPs (3200, 9400, etc.).

Sorry guys, didn't realise there was replies!

Thanks for the replies, I guess I'll just have to wait until I have a bit more cash before I do a direct swap. The last thing I want is a downgrade in performance :)

Ah well
