My dad had had an e-mail from Sky saying he has gone over his monthly usage twice in 6 months and are therefore moving him to the unlimited package (he currently uses the "lite" plan which is free and doesnt cost anything extra on top of his Sky subscription!)

Problem is this will cost him an extra £7.50 per month plus they are saying he has outlived a discount period he was in and this will cost an extra £5.00 too!!!!

Anyway, I'm doing some research for him and found Plusnet can be had for £6.75 per month with a 10GB limit which should be more than enough!

My question is, can we use the existing Sky router or is it hardwired for the Sky settings?

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks...

To be honest the speed with Sky at the moment is pretty crap - with it being my dad, I dont think he'll be looking for mega-low pings!! :D

Just reliable and cheap is the order of the day!

My dad has been with Plusnet before and always found them to be fine!

Speed isnt really an issue as much as reliability and price to be honest!

With Sky Talk you get a £5 per month discount? making the price £7.50 per month?

Yeah but their latest charges summary states that my dad is nearing the end of his "discount period" - rather than it being a constant discount for having the calls through Sky!?!?!

I'm sure when I speak to them they will offer to continue the discount but its still £7.50 extra which he'd rather not be paying!
The annoying part is that they are saying his usage has jumped to over the 2GB limit for 2 months running despite him barely using it!?!?!

I mean barely using it! - He perhaps gets a couple of e-mails per day and other than that just the odd bit of browsing - nothing too usage-heavy like i-player or youtube etc!

I dont think he's ever downloaded a song or video!

What I'm trying to say is that his usage pattern hasnt changed from the last couple of years and he's never even come close to the limit before!
