Thinking of getting 2900XT (currently have 8800 GTX)

I've preordered one of those pioneer blu-ray drives (read only). I read here that the 8800 GTX only supports 1080p with HDCP encryption over a single link dvi connection. I currently have a monitor that requires dual link DVI so I'm shafted according to that article.

In the past I was also put off going down this route because of the problems ppl have reported with this card, but the catalyst 7.6 release looks like it has solved a lot of those issues.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't I mean you have a great card with the 8800GTX why waste your money, you might as well wait untill the card prices go down, or untill nVidia releases its new chip later this year (I think)...

Spending money like that is not worth it, you might as well get another 8800GTX and go sli....

Heh, one post about going SLI and another about the speed of his card whilst gaming, and the OP wants to know about dual link HDCP :p

To answer your question, yes the 8800GTX only supports it over a single DVI port, the 2900 will play happily over both ports.

Pretty much a straight swap from 8800GTX to 2900XT. Roughly the same price aren't they?

Matthew

nah, the GTX is about anything from 50-100 quid mroe expensive, depends which 2900 you get :)

Yes, the first couple of posters didnt really seem to answer the original question. The 2900XT will do what the OP wants.

I have had no problems playing protected content on my system at 2500*1600. It could be an issue with some cards but not others, or be related to drivers. I would try it with the 8800GTX and if that doesn't work switch cards.
