Ok, so all these bloody threads bout Forza have worn me down and I'm thinking of getting an xbox to tide me over till GT5 is out for my ps3 :D Now I've always been in the playstation camp, had them all and the ps3 is constantly on, but I've never had an xbox, what do i need to know? Clearly I'll need to pay for xbox live, but how much can this be had for? Whats the microsoft points all about? What do people do for the batterys in the controllers? And so on.

Seen a deal locally for the 120gb elite, with an extra controller and 4 games inc forza and NFS for £198, this looks like a good deal?

All I need to do now is work out how to rig the 5.1 to my surround sound as i already have my ps3 and tv through it

Looks like a cracking deal for £198 personally!!

Xbox live is about £35 for the year depending on where you shop.

Live points work like cash basically to allow you to puirchse game add ons such as map packs and custom wall papers etc. Only time Ive ever bought anything with them was for Guitar Hero.

I just use normal batteries for my controllers, they last for about 3 months on average but Im not really hardcore so depends on your useage really.

Live does not need to cost £35 a year if you shop around, more like £27-28. You will also get 1 month free with your console.

Id recommend getting a play and charge kit for the controller, only cost a tenner and they mean you dont need to worry about batteries.

I wouldn't recommend a play and charge kit, both of the ones my mate bought ~2 years ago now don't work properly and lose charge within minutes.

What i would recommend is some rechargeable batteries and one of those spinky re chargers that charges in 10 mins, does the job fine and they last a lot longer than the playncharge kits do before they need refilling.

There's some great exclusives on the 360 so it's well worth owning. I still prefer my PS3, but i'd never sell my 360.

£10 will easily buy you 24 high quality Duracells. As your 360 will not be your main console I recommend this instead of a play and charge. The play and charge is great if you use it regularly, but if you use it sparingly they die and need recharging more frequently.

No rechargeables will last as long as Duracells, you will probably get twice as much out of one of them then a single charged battery tbh.

There is a thread on here recently about play and charge's dying. Everyone is quick to recommend them, but a lot of people end up replacing them or having them die, which you don't hear as much about.

There is also a thread somewhere to get Live codes e-mailed to you (1 year of Live) for £27 instead of the RRP of £40.

As mentioned, don't buy a play and charge kit. Very early on, someone on the net broke open one of these, and found very cheap batteries inside.

Just buy hi-power AA rechargeable batteries and a charger (if you haven't already got one).

£198 is a great deal for an Elite with those games.

You haven't said much about your audio set-up, so can't comment on it.
With mine, the 360 is connected to my TV via HDMI, and that passes through 5.1 to my Panasonic all-in-one, again through HDMI.

Also the 27-28 quid ones you can get often come with an extra month so thats 13 months instead of the 12 for £35 official.

I also just use standard Duracel Batteries, on my 3rd pair as we speak and ive had the console for about 9/10 months but im not a hard core player or anything.

You should get a months free Xbox Live with that package. A 12 month subscription can be picked up for about £26 online off of an instant code website. If I can remember the one I used, I'll link it.

I'm not sure if you really need an Elite though. The 60gb Premium is more than good enough, but £198 for an Elite with 4 games is decent.

Battery wise I just use some old rechargable batteries, the pad isn't much of a drain on them even with the rumble on. Though I still prefer the old fashioned cable pads, particulary when I'm in a rage because it means I can strangle the nearest person to me with it :)

It sounds like a good deal, and Forza 3 is worth the price alone :)

You'll get the first month of Live free with the new console and then look around for deals, £26 for 12 months - £27-£28 for 13 months maybe even find a better deal.

You can also buy the MS points the same way, or just via a credit card.

I'm too forgetfull to deal with Recharging things so I bought 40 x Durcell Extra High Power for £15 inc delivery, they've lasted ages.

As your going to be new to the 360, don't forget about all the games you've missed. I'm guessing you like racing games :) so check out the PGR series and other things like Halo, Gears of War etc etc. It's nice to have the best of both worlds and will certainly pass the time til GT5.

Silver is free for eternity.

You get a free month's gold with every 360, but you have to go enrol a specific way to get it. If you haven't used your code yet, don't, I'm not sure you can get the free month once you've signed up for gold.

Cheers for the advice guys, going to go back and double check the deal to be certain, and if so will probably pick it up on friday :D

So what games would you recommend that I'll of missed out on?

Edit: Just checked online and the deals seems good :D 360 Elite, 2 controllers, forza 3, NFS: Shift, Pure, and Lego Batman for £197  Looks like I'll be going up and checking stock levels :)

I would recommend the quick charge cradle as you get a battery pack with it. You can buy extra battery packs for around a fiver if you shop around.
