as my 5850 twin frozr isn't giving me the performance i had hoped it would.

I play mostly bad company so am looking for the best thing i can get to play it at 1680x1050 with everything turned on - well aa left at 4. Performance on the 6970 is still some way behind the 570 GTX according to the benchmarks i've seen.

I've been an ATI boy for a while now so have a few questions...

First off...if you own one can you let me know what you think of it? Does anyone play BC2 with it - how does it play/feel?

What is the picture quality like on the 570GTX

Also how do you overclock them - do you have to use afterburner, or is it possible to edit the bios??

Also will it trottle back to 2d speeds whilst overclocked in afterburner...i know my Twin Frozr doesn't.

And lastly what brand? In terms of Warranty but also RMA - what experiences have you had??

Afterburner does not underclock the cards, the drivers do to save power when the GPU is not stressed, it works perfectly with Nvidia cards.

My 480 " same performance as a 570 " at 800 core plays BC2 superbly at 1680x1050 with excellent image quality, you can even play comfortably with 32xAA on.

Overclocking is easy with an Nvidia card, there are no restrictions on how high you want to try to clock, just push the core up and hit apply. No need to flash or edit the bios for extra voltage options or to bypass overclock limits.


As for brand go with the cheapest, the OCUK 570 is a good deal and comes with a two year warranty.

BC2 is like the other BF series, CPU hungry too...it'll quite happily chomp on 4 cores or more if you have them. If you have a quad core cpu and a 570 you'll enjoy full eye candy in BC2
 
got an i5 750 at 4Ghz so no worries CPU wise

thanks for the reply Raven - what i meant was does afterburner prevent the drivers from underclocking the cards in 2d, but you've given me the answer i wanted anyhow

My MSI 5850 Twin FrozR is more than fine on BFBC2 at 1920x1080, 4xAA, 16xAF, HBAO enabled...so I really don't see how it would struggle for you at 1680x1050 res...especially with a i5 750 at 4.0GHz...

Possible driver issue may be?

Overclocked profile will not underclock when idle, only at stock speed it would do it...which is why I set overclocked profile for 3D profile, and stock speed profile for 2D profile.

i've tried setting different clocks to 2d and 3d and afterburner doesn't change them when i start up BC2...

Drivers are 10.12 with the latest profiles

I do like to have V-sync on Marine so minimums are important to me and i think this is where my 5850 is letting me down

In that case you should probably go for a Nvidia card (above GTX460). As overkill as GTX570 sound for 1680 res, it's probably worth it if you use V-sync. Can you still return your 5850 for full refund under DSR?
 
Nah i ordered it before xmas and picked it up from the shop 'cos i wanted to have a look - bit of a disappointment to be honest but i did get my picture taken underneath the sign :D
 
i got the EVGA 570 you can use there own software to clock it EVGA Precision, and they also have software to tune voltages its very easy EVGA Eleet, i got the normal one and clocked it to the superclocked cards speed within mins of downloading EVGA software.
they have a 10 year warranty if you reg within 30 days.
 
The 570 will get you some great average fps BFBC2, and minimum dips are still more than playable. With everything maxed out at 1920x1200 it looks great so 1680x1050 will have no problems at all and will last a long while yet at that res. But as others have said the game loves a quad core.

Having said the above, 5850 should allow you to play at 1680x1050 all things maxed so there might be something up.

I have an EVGA GTX570.

So long as you are running a single monitor at below 120hz, it WILL downclock to 50mhz with an overclocked profile set in afterburner for 2d use. The clock change seems to be a lot slower than my old ATI card and I've yet to see it downclock by mistake in older less demanding games.

There are 3 modes effectively: IDLE / MID / HIGH
The middle mode is used when playing video* etc and as a bridge between clocking up and down for gaming.

I tested at the wall for power consumption too and was quite surprised:
Stock = IDLE 118watts / MID IDLE 168watts
900/2000/1.075v = IDLE 118watts / MID IDLE 182watts

*It seems as tho my system is only consuming 122watts when playing video, weird but I'll take it :)

I'm looking at getting a 6950 and flashing it to 6970 speeds, but still mulling over buying a GTX 570 for an extra £30 but not sure whether it's worth the extra £30.

Gigabyte without a shadow of a doubt, 3 years warranty and UK return to base, people usually get replacement within a couple of days max.

I think that's more of a case of whether you value paying the extra £35 for the warranty and also if your actually loyal to the retailer - I usually shop around, not sure how good MSI are when it comes to RMA returns.

Also do you keep a graphics card for more than 2 years, I upgrade usually once per year anyway so makes no difference to me.
 
BC2 loves the quad core so ur fine there. I've just gone from a HD5870 to GTX570 and it's great. Same res as you on 20" monitor 32xAA all settings on high, looks stunning :) Up to 90fps iirc. Quieter than my 5870, not tried OCing yet but i read they're very good at that.

MSI AB shows it clocks down to 50 of something on the core at idle and MOST IMPORTANTLY FOR ME - the drivers actually work and i can spend my time enjoying the game instead of alt-tabbing out of WSOD!!

I got the KFA2 as it is run by the guys that left BFG and i was told has a UK RMA 2 year warranty and was cheapest at the time, bar the OCUK version. I'd say go for it unless ur going to lose a bucket load on the 5850, having said that for smooth gaming and working drivers any hit is probably worth it (can u tell i got fed up with AMD :D).

The MSI has dropped to £270 - i have one and its great :) im pretty sure the warranty (2 years) is with OCUK - at least i was told that when i bought mine!
 
I find this a bit strange. I get a framerate of a constant 60fps with everything as high as it will go, 8x MSAA, 16x AF at 1920 x 1080. Obviously that's with Vsync on, too. I have a 5850 overclocked to around 5870 stock speeds and a 2500k at 4.4Ghz. I doubt your CPU can be letting you down but honestly it's silky smooth on my 5850.
