thinking of getting a 570

this is the top of my budget as I don't play too many games. Is this the best buy for me? I have no preference of Ati vs nvidia. Currently on a 4890. 1080p monitor 580w psu

Which 570 are you going for?

Minimum PSU Watt from the official Nvidia website is 550W

I can personally recommend getting a 6950 and unlocking it to a 6970.

It is way cheaper and you get roughly the same performance if not more (depending on the game) as with the gtx 570. Also new 11.4 ATI drivers around the corner so yeah

depends what the rest of your spec is - you'll most likely need a new PSU too.

I think you might need to invest in a new psu, that's the only thing that concerns me. What's the rest of your system like?

Psu is a modular tagan. A few years old but high spec

Rest of machine is [email protected]. 1 ssd. 1 sata hdd. 1 optical drive.

I have the Gainward 570 Phantom. Superb video card, silent, smooth (no micro-stutter like my 4870x2) had. Cannot fault it and plays everything I throw at it in 1920x1200 with FSAA. Spec as in sig!

That would be my choice. You also get more VRAM

Running Furmark(as stressful as it gets) a 570 will typically draw 298w of power.

480 draws 320w. :eek:

If you have no preference, then the 6950, simply as it's cheaper, can easily be turned into 6970 and I think it's six and half a dozen in performance myself:

Unless you want 2 cards, then the 6950>70 wins with better scaling.

overclocking/flashing it will be more fun

6950 delivered and flashed in a couple of mins (had to do it via command line)

Just played a few hours crysis 2. PSU seems to be handling it fine. Very happy.
