I've been looking into getting a Logitech Harmony Elite when they next go on sale.

Has anyone had any experience of using this? Would you recommend it ?

My current setup has an AFTV, PS3, rasPLEX and a PC plugged into my AMP.

I have the Ultimate. I have Amp, TV, FireBox, PS4, BT Box and NAS.

At first i though they were way too expensive for a small QOL improvement but honestly I wouldn't go back now.

Not used the Elite but im sure it's much the same just in a different package.

i have the Harmony hub. i really love it. it's helped me to be more independents, as I'm disabled.

devices i have are Philips hue, Dyson Hot + Cool AM09 fan, Philips 4k android tv, samsung Blu-ray player, amazon fire tv 4k box, now tv smart box, virgin media TiVo, intampo jukeboxs, denon avrx520bt av receiver

I'm in the same boat, looking to consolidate my remotes, have you considered anymote or blumoo?
I've not looked into it in much detail, but have seen these product names bandied around.
Though I'm looking for it to hook up with my echo.

Every time I read about this sort of stuff everyone always talks about the harmony. I've heard the buttons above the screen on the ultimate are abit annoying.

Think I'll see if I can snag a bargain on the elite on black Friday.

I have a remote control from another brand. I recommend universal programmable remote controls, with macros if you have a complex av system.

The only reason why everyone talks about Logitech Harmony is because they're common as muck. There are other brands of remote controls. I like mine however it lacks built in rechargable batteries and docking station. I guess AAA cells are good as standard, but a special battery is harder to find.

No, the reason by people talk about logitech is because they are the closest thing to a complete package whilst still being accessible to a novice. They arent hardcore like a TRC remote, requiring extra kit and you to write your own drivers....and are otherwise still more flexible than pretty much any other remotes out there.

What universal remote would you recommend to control say 8 devices with the support for custom activities? There arent many of them....

Personally I'm a fan of the Harmony Smart Control (i.e. the one without the touch screen) because I like to be able to press button without faffing around.

Even made a thread about it: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18631835

Something that people overlook with the "smart control" is that the 3 activity buttons are actually 6, and every button on the remote can be double bound (tap and long press)

The "limit" for only controlling 8 devices as well is kind of misleading because you can technically control more than that by recording button presses from as many remotes as you want as additional buttons for one device.

Plus it's cheaper and you don't have to keep it in a dock to keep it charged - I've not changed the battery since I bought them two years ago.

I've got an elite and absolutely love it. When I bought it I was really worried about dropping so much money on it, but I think it was absolutely the right decision. Even the missus agrees that it was worth it which is a rarity!

I don't use some of the elite features just yet (smart plugs, lights etc), but I didn't like the idea of buying an ultimate as 1) they're still quite pricey and 2) I hope to use some of the new features in time.

Yup I you can just add more buttons to one device, from multiple devices, if you have litterally dozens of devices. Mine supports upto 20 devices, but lets say you have a HDMI switch. Why put that as a seperate device? Just add it to another device, say IR lighting and thus you have two devices in one device. So when you call up a command or macro just go into that device and specific IR code. Each device allows me 40 buttons for one device so that is plenty - say if each HDMI switcher has 6 buttons, then 15 or so from the IR backlighting...still plenty left in that one device (I could add the main lighting dimmer too!) Easily enough to hot link a specific IR command from anywhere else and activity I want.

I've had two HDMI switches, and one IR backlight so I've just added all three into one.

^^^ thats what i do also

as i said above. the devices i have are Philips hue, Dyson Hot + Cool AM09 fan, Philips 43pus6401 4k android tv, samsung Blu-ray player, amazon fire tv 4k box, now tv smart box, virgin media TiVo, 3 intampo jukeboxs, denon avrx520bt av receiver, HDMI switcher.

the HDMI switcher i added to the tv device and i put the 3 intampo jukeboxs on one device.

I have harmony elite and the only issue is the overly sensitive touch screen. You should either be able to lock it so no changes are made or ajust sensitivity.

Other than that its great and wife proof which is he major bonus. Plus Harmony hub now supported by Amazon echo.

I bought a One Touch after reading all the reviews, but I never really got on with it. I found the touch screen 'annoying' to say the least. In the end it got boxed up and threw in a box destined for the loft.
