as above,

I currently have a amd fx-8350 with sabertooth 990fx R2.0 at the moment, I built this just 4 months ago but to be honest It's not as good as I was expecting. dont get me wrong it is a fantastic cpu and i would use them again but i want something a bit more powerful but I'm restricted money wise. I have decided to go with a i5-3570k, I just want to know what people's opinions are on this cpu, iv read its good but heard it can have heat problems, but i was looking at a noctua NH-U9B SE2 to cool it.
motherboard wise I was thinking of keeping with a sabertooth again, the Z77, anybody know what the asus p8 versions are like? and any good for over clocking?
also if I can afford it down the road I'd like to get a SSD to go with it.

just looking for people's opinions on this setup. thanks,
btw, it will mainly be used for net, applications and some gaming with high settings.

cheers!

I've used both and noticed little difference in games with a 7970 graphics card. On many newer games (such as Crysis, Battlefield) the benchmarks are similar, sometimes the 8350 will be better while in most cases the 3570k is, just. But outside of benchmarks they feel very similar. I actually prefer the 8350 over the 3570K but I guess it's because I run a lot of virtual computers etc

I think it's a waste going to a 3570k now if you have a 8350. I'd personally wait till Haswell (which is due for release in a month or so time) and see if you still feel the same then. If so, you will get more performance for your money than you would now :)

if you could stretch to a 3770k it would make a better pc,esp if you play a lot of multi threaded games

bf3/metro 2033,crysis 123 ect

depends on your budget tho

all z77 boards are decnt overclockers 4.5ghz+ it will be cpu temps that limit you more than the board

tbh the 3570k is a little faster in games then what you have but i wouldn't swop tbh.

also 3770k wont be that much difference from a 3570k unless its with twin cards or uses the extra. bf3 benched lately was 1 fps difference lol from a 3570k to a 3770k so dont fall for those who say its massively different it isn't at all unless as said you have sli crossfire which can make a bit of difference.

the benchies were by a guy on here who had a 3570k and moved to a 3770k.

ok thanks for your opinions guys, appreciate it!

I'l wait out and hold onto what I have, and see how haswell plays out and decide again if it'l be worth it.
going by what ye are saying I think I'l see better benefit from an SSD than switching to a 3570k.
I suppose whith haswell around the corner it would be a big gamble going for this right now.
Cheers guys!!

Curious as to wether haswell will be a bit cooler running than ivy. Ie, will intel do a proper solder job between the die and ihs, or cheap out again?

ivy is not hot... Its just **** thermal compound itself that makes it hot.

And if i had faildozer cpu i would invest in good watercooling and just clock it as high as it goes :P Thats what i did with my 1090t phenom

8350 is piledriver.

I'l see how haswell pans out, If there is not much of a performance boost I'l clock the fx, watercool, and ssd.

cheers for yer opinions!

It can be dangerous to ones wallet if one were to get caught in the "its 5-10 fps faster" scheme. Usually the performance of a 8350 or 8320 more than enough to get the fps one would want/need and if it isn't chances are that most cases neither would a 3570k or a 3770k. A haswell upgrade from a piledriver setup (current piledriver) might be worth it even though haswell doesn't bring that much extra performance to the table over the current intel lineup(not oced) simply due to the better power consumption and hopefully much better OC capability. Time will tell :)
