Thinking of getting Sky Stream

I'm thinking of getting Sky Stream for TV and maybe sport and wondering if it is worth it. I have a 4k LG TV with an Apple TV I use for watching Netflix, Disney+ and others and I'm curious if Sky Stream is worth it even though I have an Apple TV? I'd like to hook up a pair of bluetooth headphones. Being able to watch programmes that have played in the past would be good but I'm sure how that works.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you mean Sky Steam that uses a puck, don't go there it's rubbish. A much better and cheaper option is Now TV. Also, if you go the Now TV route don't install it on your Apple TV. The Apple TV does not decode broadcast HDR (which is HLG), which both Now TV and BBC IPlayer use.
Intall both Iplayer and Now TV on your LG TV.

Its awful. We are trying it for 2 years and I cant stand the gui, UHD live sports (and sometimes live hd sports) stutters and does a Benny Hill to catch up. The Playlist "recording" is terrible. Loads reporting the issue the pucks are terrible. Check out the Sky community pages. Once its finished we will go elsewhere prob NowTV.

One tip I found with the Pucks. If you switch from WIFI to ethernet disable WIFI or it still uses WIFI even with a network cable plugged in !

Also just heard Sky have closed all their UK Customer Service and support offices.

Thank you! I guess I'll skip it.

We have it for TV and it is fine, I stopped subscribing to sport so can't comment on that but would say that having trialled UHD etc on it, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of different to TV with or without UHD, so I would not pay for that unless you need the audio stream for receiver etc, we just use TV speakers on a 77" G4.

Biggest problem the missus has had with it is sometimes it will not pause for long enough or go back to start of a live programme and you can't always find a streamed version until the next day but otherwise it is fine, she would prefer a proper recording box because of this issue.

Ours is wired and we have Youfibre so internet is fast might be why we feel it is OK, no lags etc.

Yeah, I've had no issues at all. Prefer it to Sky Q. Originally had some UHD stutter / sound issues but was resolved by setting the box to pass through on the audio settings.

Thank you both. I'm on the fence at the moment. I like the look of it and do watch quite a bit of TV but I'll have to think a bit as it isn't exactly cheap.

Take the 30 day option initially, trial it, then cancel it. Afterwards reach out on the Sky thread and ask for a code to get cheaper services and do the 24 month contract. ;)

Had Sky Stream for a couple of years now, its not the best but it does what its supposed to. The playlist takes a bit of getting used to, but it does what its supposed to, if some things seem to take a step or two more than you would think. The stuttering on UHD sports is annoying, but I just decided HD on my OLED was fine.

The basic offering of Sky Ultimate with Netflix, Disney and HBO included for £24 a month isn't bad. You then add on UHD and ad-skipping for free every couple of months. OBviously if you want multi-room or sports you pay more. I pay £54.50 a month for Ultimate with Sky Sports and 3 pucks.

Yup it is always the case that once out of offer period it is pricey but for me as a subscriber of netflix and disney the fact they were bundled it meant it was not bad value compared to separates, I don't up spec any of the apps all std with ads image quality is decent. I used to have all the UHD etc but find since I got rid of Satellite niether VM or Stream seen to match the same level of quality that used too, or my TV is doing such a grand job of scaling with it various 'AI' engines that I'm just meh about it.

ou then add on UHD and ad-skipping for free every couple of month

Yes they seem to offer it frequently, so I take this up too.

They haven’t. There’s one literally just down the road from me and it’s not closing any time soon
Thats what I was told by someone who works in the Sky Media Team. Maybe they havent been told they are closing ;)

It’ll be a big shock as they’re just moving to a new office. There’s no way that Sky can lose their UK based customer services as the Eastern European and South African call centres are atrocious - truly the worst of the worst.
