Hey all,

After a bit of advice if you don't mind -

I'm thinking of hosting a bit of a retro lan using one of the clubs at work. I've around 20 people who are keen and I'm wondering what age stipulation we should go with on the hardware?

I've got kit from 2000, and kit from 2003 here, but figured that 2000 is probably better? Most people seem to have old stuff laying around and if we stuck to 2000 it would mean that people would actually have to do some old school overclocking to get the most out of their kit? 2003 would allow for barton 2500 era cpu's which were pretty damn easy to overclock.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Thanks

bit silly and pointless surely...just play old games on the new systems...??

Nay, there's something about playing old games on old hardware. If everyone was happy playing old games on new hardware they'd play their old console games on emulators.

I figured it'd bring a bit of old school oc skills to the table. The new stuff is too easy.

I liek the idea. What about a tonnne of cheap computers that are ITX mATX but have them look nice, portable and pimping.

Get some old FPS games? Quake, UT or even older. DOSBOX

Nothing beats playing old games on old systems. I still use my Amiga, winuae just does not feel the same at all and never will. Although my laptop runs aros :p

But this LAN idea involves playing old PC games on new PCs. It's hardly the same as playing Amiga, SNES, etc games.

This won't end well believe me. We used to struggle to get a few PC's to talk to each other in the past, as in struggle for 2+ hours.

Just setup a LAN, and play UT99 and some Quake - what more do you need? :p
