My nephew is currently studying Computer gaming at uni and needs a new computer. He currently uses a laptop but it's way underpowered.

I have a budget of about £600/700 and he will need everthing, can someone please spec me a system that will run the latest titles etc.

Thanks

As he is at Uni, he gets loans/grants etc - could he not stick another £500 towards it? Or are you both putting towards the sum already?

That system will be good, but if he is doing heavy threaded stuff (design, animation etc) he will need a more powerful system.

mate the grants he gets barely cover his living expenses, he doesn't have that much left over!!!

In a ideal world the sky would be the limit, but I can only afford so much.

Money can be saved on items such as the OS as most likely being a IT student, his uni would have a MSDN scheme that allows free OS's and apps.

But yeah realistically £700 for everything is going to be hard going. Also, being a comp games tech graduate myself I had friends manage throughout with laptops (dedicated gpu's with second monitors for dual screenage). It depends a lot on the particular course requirements of course but it would be more beneficial in the long term to put £200 - £300 on top of the budget.

Does he have a decent display/mouse already he can use?
