as title suggests im thinking of selling parts of my current build and using parts that i could for an mitx build, the main reasons for this would be space as i don't really like big massive cases........ and i quite fancy the idea of mitx

here is my current build and spec...

photo0003fq.jpg

spec
xfx core pro 650w
asus xonar d2 sound card
coolit eco
g-skill ripjaws 8-8-8-24 1600mhz
asus crosshair 3 formula mobo with original sound card
amd phenom iix2 545 unlocked to phenomiix4 b45 @stock 3.0ghz
xfx ati hd 5830 batmobile cooler not egg
wd 500gb+samsung 1tb

i would be keeping the ram, psu, hdds and coolit eco depending on weather it fits from that build

and this is what i would like to buy or similar if i went m itx

anybody have any opinions on this? is it worth it, would i see performance increases because of i7? any better suggestions?:confused::confused:

wouldnt need a bigger ssd because it would only be used for boot, allready have 1.5tb
worth of hdd

im just stuck on if its worth it? and i would be stuck with my mid range laptop for a while whilst this is built... if its built

if i did go sandy bridge i would sell my mobo+cpu for around £130

and get this

meaning i would need to save a total of around
318.98 but prices may change by then and i may buy some more ram

which would leave my build looking something like this

but then again there is the size issue and i would be spending around the same sort of money if i go for m itx or sandy i7
after the components i sell...

this is what id get, saves £50, you can use, ram, hdd's, psu, etc

i put the 1156 gigabyte board because they removed the foxconn h67s board, but the foxconn was cheaper anyway, this is just for price reference.

They will bring back the h67 itx boards after the sata issues are fixed with B3 revision boards.

another thing i specced the 2500k, this is because later this year they will bring out the p67 itx boards which will allow overclocking, you can change boards when this happens if you like, if overclocking isnt your thing then save some more cash by getting the 2500 or the 2400. (i have the i5 2400 and it is lightning fast)

Reasons for this build over your original...

i7 860 VS i5 2500k

6870 vs 6950 2gb

much better build all round, you can even use the money saved to get a crucial c300 and use it on the sata III ports on the foxconn board, will be much quicker than the kingston ssd

i have the foxconn h67s, with a c300 and it boots in about 8 seconds, mayb even quicker.

kk thanks, the reason i chose 6870 was because i know it fits in the case, also are you sure the 6950 would fit the case you have specd?

buy the time i make the change i will of acquired a nice amount of money anyway so anything below £700 isn't really an issue:p

I had similar build with Q08B and it was so cramped it wasnt even funny, i couldnt get a decent air cooler that didnt sound like a jet engine and to get a CoolIT or H50 in you have to do some serious bending of the pipes to get it to fit.

I wouldnt put high end kit in MITX it will turn round and bite you on the arse, having it cramped and bent killed my CoolIT ECO ALC and my GPU sounded like a jet engine.

if 700 is the budget then i recommend this case/psu, the gpu will fit easily. i have the same case, psu, cpu, 8gb ram, the foxconn h67s board, using the intel stock hsf right now but the cooler you have should fit.

alright, thanks 3 months and this should be done then, and as a plus i get another £100 if i do well in my exams :):D

i think with good cable management it wont be a problem, my cables dont go on the top of my 5850, i put the under the dvd rw so they dont affect the gpu. i even got a 5970 with accellero cooler in there, it was a tight squeeze but no mobo bending, i had to take it out because the cooler was 3 slot though.
