As above. What do the different numbers mean on AMDs? like Ryzen 7 and 3900x/3800x I dont need lots of cores as I mainly play Il-2 DCS and Elite. Any info welcome

To be honest the money spent upgrading CPU and Mobo over an 8086k for gaming alone wont achieve a huge amount.

In AMD CPU's, 1st number is the generation, so 3xxx is all one generation, and the second number is the tier of CPU, generally the higher the number is the higher core count or boost frequencies, as well as the 'x' at the end being the better model of that same tier. The 3800x is an 8 core CPU with 4.5GHz boost and the 3900x is a 12 core CPU with a 4.6GHz boost.

If you really want to upgrade then I would look at the 5xxx series as these are the latest and offer the biggest upgrade.

Thanks for that. I suppose that I am just killing time waiting for my 3090 to arrive.

If you're getting a 3090 you will be wanting Ryzen 5000, a 5800X (8 core 16 thread, 4.7Ghz boost) or a 5900X (12 core 24 thread, 4.8Ghz boost)

I fly in VR and own a Reverb G2 so frame rates count and Il-2 is very CPU dependant. To be honest if I was just using a monitor I probably wouldnt bother upgrading any thing, but for me the experience of VR is worth a lot and even 5 frames a second might help a lot more in VR as against a flatscreen.
