Hi,

My PS3 was a gift from my brother 3 years ago. The only games I have played were the fantastic Uncharted series, some Fifa, Resident Evil (coop split screen) and Buzz. Right now I am thinking of replacing it with a decent HTPC based on AMD Trinity setups. Noise is a very important factor and that is why I am leaning towards the single CPU-GPU chip. What do you think?

Thx

gaming htpc doesn;t fit in the same sentence for me. Keep the ps3 and build a dedicated htpc.

Could you please explain why?
I am thinking that a A10-5800K can play Fifa13 and also play HD content.
Noise could be an issue, but that is why I am asking you guys for advice.

If you get a htpc for gaming you will be messing about with a mini keyboard, configuring etc. When your mates are around just wanting to have a game. I don't know the performance of the latest igp's but I imagine the equivalent of a low end gfx card at best. So probs worse than the ps3.

Now for a htpc you want it quiet and any decent gfx atcard is not. You could perhaps look at different cooling methods for the card but is it really worth it?

What do you want the htpc for? Purely media and games or other PC stuff too?

i have a gaming HTPC

it all fits in the space of an av receiver

mine isnt silent but its only noisy when playing games. Probabbly.. because there is a AMD 6950 gpu in there

may also be cheaper to get a wdtv live and external hdd.

Don't get me wrong. I have had a HTPC for many years and wouldn't be without it but it is also used as a fileserver for the other devices in the house, minecraft server and download box but without those needs I would probably go with a little streamer

What i missed to write is that i already have an htpc (zbox). My thinking is to sell both PS3 and zbox and replace them with a more powerful htpc which will also be able to play games in 1080p. The PS3 games i described are not many so i dont think i will lose much.
