Thinking of returning my card

My card is running wamrer than anyone else's card so I'm gonna return it.

Have just been told by OcUK that I have to pay to send it back? How does that work? I receive a faulty item and Im the one who incurs costs?

Please let me know your experiences with returns - I for one have never paid for a return if the item is faulty and don't expect to.

My card has peaked at 94c, going by some reviews even open air test benches have recorded temps into the 90's.

Just hope that they do not send it back to you as working fine (which it will probably be on a test bench) as you'll pay again for delivery a third time :)

Is it worth it ???

Having said that I have had faulty stuff picked up by other e-vendor(s) without paying a penny ..

Mine has peaked at 98c - what do you idle at though? I'm idling at 54c with fan control on auto which is madness....

@blackninja I won't be paying for delivery costs a second time. I have never done so and do not plan to in this instance.
Is it worth it? Mate the card is runnning way warmer than it should be 54c idle is like 15c hotter than the standard, so yeah it's worth it because the card isn't functioning properly. This is all at stock clocks ofc - what happens if I want to overclock it? Idling at 62c ?? ROFL.

Yeah I'm running x2 monitors - jesus - so because the GPU clock is at 500mhz it idles that hot? If more people would come and say those temps then fine it's not faulty but up until now all I've had in reply is:

"Dunno what's off with your card dude but im idling at 38c and full load at 75c"

One of the guys actually has an idenitcal system to me.

Hmmm more thoughts needed and more temps if anyone else is out there.

75c seems a bit low for these cards, most reviews ive seen seem to indicate late 80's to mid 90's.

Your dust filters cleaned out?

^^^ See what I mean - same system as mine and it cannot be the dual monitor thing becuase I has these temps with 1 monitor when I first installed the card. I'm gonna unplug my 2nd monitor now and see if that makes a difference to idle temps - if it does then there is an explanation and I'll be happy.

@Deluxe - case is fine as far as airflow goes and the card is in my sig but it's a HIS 6970.

If your returning under DSR then you have to pay the return postage .

If it's a warranty claim then you have a right to reimbursement of the postage provided it's found that it is faulty.

But to return on the basis that it runs hotter than you think it should is probably not a very good idea as , so far as I am aware, no sellers or manufacturers warrant that the card temps. will between 'a' and 'b' or not exceed 'y'.
They warrant that it will work -if it is doing what has the temp. got to do with anything ?

If you did return then they will test it - if it's working fine they will look to return it to you.(Not sure but it could be the case that you might be held responsible for the costs of returning it to you - you would have to read rma/warranty terms and conditions to be sure)

If your within DSR then send it back - reason is irrelavent!

If your outside that period - tread with care.

P.S. I am not looking to be in any way critical of you and personally I would agree with the sentiments you express about heat but...

Ok yeah I've unplugged the second monitor as the temps are coming down from idling at 51C @ 35% fan to 34c @ 35% fan.

Those bloody dual monitors pushing the core clock to 500mhz and memory up too.

I would really like to see what temps are like ingame from these temps. I would imagine they would be the same as before, no? High 90s on auto fan.

This is kinda whatI used the second monitor for - keeping an eye on emails and watching my temps etc....can anyone suggest a program perhaps or something to monitor my temps whilst ingame on a single monitor?

Thanks again all....I might have got to the bottom of this now. Now idling at 33c at 35% fan.

Thanks for your thoughts mate. I received the card yesterday so I guess I've not gone over any time limit. :D

The guy you quoted may have lower temp, but did he mention anything about custom fanspeed profile? He could be running the cooler fan at 80% speed and use a headset for all we know...

i sent my 5850 back yesterday, arrived faulty, they got it today and sent a replacement out today, am i entitled to my postage back?
