Thinking of reusing an old case for a build

Hi.

I'm doing a build for my Dad to replace his ancient P4 3.2Ghz with 768mb of Ram!

We're thinking of using the old case but want to know the pitfalls.

First of all, it's a Micro ATX board (so I assume case as well) so we'd need to use another M-ATX board.

However, will the necessarily fit newer components? The case has 4 PCI slots and there seems to be enough room for the GTX-470 we want to put in it.

What about the motherboard headers for audio and USB at the front. Will they still work for instance?

Thanks a lot.

Thread disappoints, was expecting a picture of a giant vase.

Mobo should fit fine, the 470 might not if the case is too small inside (card may be too long). If you're spending £200+ on a gpu it might be worth spending £50 on a bigger case with better cooling anyway.

Arf!

Just noticed my typo!

The case is 17" long so I reckon it will be ok.

Well, the MATX form factor hasn't really changed from the point of view of a case for some time, so it should be ok. On the other hand, it may be worth getting a newer case for better cooling.

Edit: Oh, and yes, I was disappointed with the lack of thread content vase-wise...

Still.....I wonder if anyone has built a computer inside a vase. Is it even possible. There are pretty large vases around.

Ming V1 *** !!! ;)

But seriously.. pic of case?

Alternatively, if it's ok with a P4 running in there, any modern CPU should be just fine, it all depends whether a modern GPU will fit :D

lol epic disappointment.
some one needs to do a vase build now.

Measure the width of the case from the PCI plate at the back to the front just to make sure the gfx will fit.
Better safe than sorry.

There's only one way to make up for the disappointment. You now have to commit to making a case with a vase.

You dream of vases? lol

Ive lived a sheltered life.....;)

You cant say you werent dissapointed when it wasnt a vase. Would be interesting to see if it has been done, I cant imagine it possible, the possiblity of not breaking it with the amount of screws, holes and vents that would be required aswell as thick pot being a bit rubbish for heat distribution.
