One of the list of things I don't like is the chubby interface, You're only allowed to change the "font smoothing" settings which to me is rubbish. I want to be able to change my fonts and font sizes.

Is there any way to do this in OSX? or is it a case of "its apple, it just works and you can't touch it?"

I'm using windows in parallels now, and the fonts are nice and sharp (Even with cleartype) and the whole interface just seems brighter and clearer.

Is there any way of getting more control on things like this? Or do I have to download some application for $10 where theres a million free ways of doing it on windows? :p

I believe there is a program called ShapeShifter that can do what you want.

But for me, that's why I like OS X - the fact that it's (mostly) uniform in layout and appearance. Apart from when Apple decide to have a different interface for each program. Tut.

shapeshifter doesn't deal with fonts at all.

to be honest windows also has a uniformed layout, apple's is just really chubby and well, horrible.
