Thinking of switching to UKFSN OR Virgin Media

Right....
I really don't like BT Broadband at the moment, been with them since 2001 and don't like the internets I'm gettings.
I'm currently on BT Broadband option 3, and to be honest, their support sucks, ring up 'ol India and they can't understand me and I can't understand them....

I'm not even getting 2mb, before I use to get 2,048 down and 448 up. Now I'm getting 1,720 down....

And i'm wondering, do you think I should switch?
I really want to get fast speeds, and I think if I sync with UKFSN, the speeds might probably increase...
What do you think?
What about Virgin Media? They good?

First things, first...

Go here: http://speedtester.bt.com/ And do the speedtest and post your results like this:

IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3675 kbps

(I'm currently downloading ;) )

OK, here are the results, and, one more question.
I have to ring up BT, ask for a MAC code and to cancel the service.
Go on UKFSN, order all that stuff etc.
How long do you know the migration would take?

Cheers,
tem07.

-provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1760 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 893 kbps

Has anything changed since you got 2 meg down on the max product? I.e. Installed Sky? New phone/ phone sockets?

Moving provider will not increase sync rate.

Hi, I just rang up BT and they want 215 quid to 300 quid for my 8 months contract left over, option 3 12 month....

So I'm probably going to have to wait, or something, because I want to get Sky broadband.

New results today:
IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1760 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1352 kbps

Probably might switch to Sky, see what speeds I can get via. ADSL2+.

If 2Mbps worked before, you'd be much better off trying to get that working again, especially if you're stuck for 8 months of a contract...

Disconnect everything, and connect your modem to the master socket (better still use the test socket), and see what it connects at. Posting attenuation, SNR margin, sync rate from the modem would be a good idea too.

Too late, I've switched to Sky Broadband :)
Just have to wait for the router :)
I made a deal with BT, they said they'd let me off the 8 months contract.

Might have been better dealing with the problem first, especially since without fixing it you probably won't see much change

Well it might, and Sky Broadband is cheaper, also their customer service is actually worthwhile, than ringing up someone in India who doesen't understand what you're saying ~ vica versa.
