Thinking of upgrading for the 1080

I'm looking to upgrade around the end of July/early August.

I'm currently running a 3930k, X79 Sabertooth Revision 1 board with 16gb of Samsung Green 8GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual Channel with absolutely zero issues with performance. It's still a solid chip, however I want to make the jump to 4k gaming and want to run the 1080 without any bottlenecking.

I'll be keeping everything else as is so would like recomendations on a chip, mobo, ram and cooler that will keep me golden for another few years and allow me to keep current.

To echo what everyone else is saying; overclock and just stick the new card in. That's a great rig and easily has many years of life left in it.

I'm still running an overclocked 2500k and even that it's CPU limited by my 980ti in 1440p.

So if I overclock there won't be any bottleneck?

Or if there is will it not be noticeable?

I must admit I'm a touch confused.

It does mate, no issues with it at all I just don't want to spring for a 1080 and find its not running as it should because I'm on a revision 1 x79 board

Get the card and see how it performs (very well I would 100% expect) and should (doubtful) it not be performing how you expect then look into overclocking the cpu or changing it out.

Note that a 1080 wont necessarily do 4k how you expect -- benchmarks are showing it being a tad short of where you really want to be. Still the best card you can buy mind!

So, just make sure your expectations are realistic wth respect to 4k gaming.

As with the others, yes, your rig is great :)
