thinking of upgrading... suggestions please..

i have the spec in my sig and im thinking of upgrading but im not sure....

whats my weakest bit you reckon?

oh yeh, i have 17" CRT iiyama LS704U monitor and medusa headphones.... also microsoft intellimouse/intellikeyboard.

I recon your screen.

Moving to a 19"/21" would make a massive difference.

But what do you need to upgrade?
-Find you need to turn down the GFX in games? GFX Card
-Find converting images/video encoding slow? CPU
-Find HDD access is the thing you are waiting for? New HDD (Raptor or 7200.10 Seagate)

Whatever YOU find slow - Upgrade.

But generally - A bigger monitor would give you a better experience in front of the PC IMHO.

Looks like a nice rig tbh, should handle all games fine with at your CRT's max resolution (1280*1024). If you do decide to get a bigger monitor 19"+ then you will need better graphics card as well to play games at higher resolutions.

Depends on what you do most really. No component is too weak if it satisfies your needs.

You have a nice spec. If I was you I would get hold of a Opty 165 and a quality 19" 20" or 21" CRT.

A new 165 Opteron can be found for £100 if you shop around. I am sure there are good steppings for sale in the MM.
A High End CRT like iiyama, Sony, some of the Dells (Sony Tubes), Samsung or Mitsubishi can all be found for peanuts! Im shopping around myself as I am CRT freak, and for £50 you will get a very nice high quality CRT which retailed at many hundred pounds a few years back.

Around £150 for a very nice upgrade indeed. I see no need for you to change ram or GFX as you have 2gig and a X1800XT which is stunning card.

Infact I would go as far and say if you get hold of a nice CRT and run 1280x1024 you will be blown away
