Hey guys,

Thinking about an upgrade now but not sure what should i do.

My current rig is in the signature. The mobo i have now is a replacement (B-grade) for my original board which got broken when i was re-installing the cpu water block. I have had it for over 2 years without a problem but i feel it is showing its age, the on board sound doesn't work and the once stable 4ghz overclock occasionally runs into a bsod after a session of gaming.

I am looking for a cpu/mobo/ram/ssd.

going down the 4790k route or the 5280k?

Hoping for a budget of no more than £700

Thanks:D

Normally I would say your system is still fairly decent, but if you feel you have done all the necessary fault finding then have a look at the build below:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£35 Saving** £346.93
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £79.99
1 x Avexir Venom Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17200C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U21331104G-2CIG) - Green Light £65.99
Total : £502.51 (includes shipping : £8.00).

8gb and the 4970k is fine for gaming.

Thanks!

Just a point of query. Is getting an x99 board and 5820k be better in terms of future upgrades or is the z97 still a valid option?

Not really, future proofing can be hard as manufactures can easily change there minds! :( but Z97 boards are I believe are able to take Intel's next release.

Thanks again,

Just a last question, Is this board a good overclocker?

Indeed it is, i don't like to generalise by brand but gigabyte boards (no matter what spec) are always capable overclockers. This being in the middle of their range means that you'll get great OC performance with good voltage and temps (depending on CPU lottery).

The BK edition boards have a lot of extra features to ensure its very OC friendly. Heres a quick review if you have to time read it (its pretty wordy)
