Hi there. I was given as a present from a company a laptop named Thinkpad Z60 m. I use a desktop for some years now but never owned a laptop. So i am in new territory here. I managed to find that it has a Pentium 1,73 CPU, an ATI X300 64Mb ram graphic card, a 70 Gb hard disc and 512 Ram and 15,4'' screen (@1280*800 or something)
1) Is it any good?
2) If not,can i do something to upgrade it cheaply? Iwill spend money on upgrading my desctop but both... no can do...

Many thanks in advance!!!

It isn't a bad specification by any means, it would be improved by having 1gb Ram but other than that there isn't much you can normally do to upgrade a laptop. You could also buy a larger hard drive but that one should be enough for now, as an aside it probably has an 80gb hard drive rather than 70gb but 10gb may be a hidden partition for a system restore or similar.

Simplest thing is just to try it and see how suitable it is for you. :)

Can the CPU be upgraded? Or the graphic card? That would make it more equivalent for gaming as well.
Anyway, is X300 any good? Is it better than, say, Radeon 9800 pro, that i have at the desktop?

Yes , it's Pentium M.Is that a good thing? And can i change the graphic card to give a bit "ooomph" to the machine?

The PM was a very good processor. I suppose you could upgrade to a faster PM but I doubt it'd be worth it. There aren't any dual core CPUs that you can swap in.

Thinkpad = Lenovo (China's largest IT company, used to manufacture PCs for IBM before buying the whole business) = still very good. My last employer was one of the largest sellers of Thinkpads in the UK and we sold Z60s as fast as we could get them. Nice machines and seemed very reliable but, of course, not upgradeable worth a damn.
