I have been given a IBM ThinkPad T42.It is running ubuntu,is it worth putting in another more ram it has 512 at the moment. And what fine things can i do with it ?. Any free games i can get.is it worth putting in bigger HD.

More RAM = always good. But only if you think it needs it - ie it's sluggish. I had 2GB in a T42 and that was great.

What things to do with it? What would you normally do with a laptop?

Free games? 'apt-cache search game' seems to yield a few results. Load up synaptic and do some searches in there.

Bigger HD? Do you need more space?

T42 is not a bad little laptop at all - IMHO tough as old boots and if you are realistic about what you try and make it do, it will last for ages.

I'm running Ubuntu on my T42 with 1GB RAM, I'm looking at doubling it for when I'm faffing with VM's. I've recently replaced the 40GB HDD with a 250GB one.

If you're messing around with VMs the more RAM the better. 250GB sounds plenty to me but everyone's idea of a massive hard drive is different.

Aye - the more RAM the better with VM's - the T42's a lovely solid machine and can be picked up for peanuts these days.
