Thinner 360, or thicker 240 Radiator?

Is there anywhere I can look up a comparison of the cooling capabilities of a thinner 360 rad, as opposed to a thicker 240 rad?

For instance, the XSPC, and Black Ice Stealth, 360 rads are about 30-35mm thick whereas the PA120.2 is 61mm thick, and the TFC Feser 240 is even thicker at 75mm.

I would also have to take into account which fans would shift sufficient air through the thicker rads, as I would only consider watercooling so as to be as quiet as possible, therefore any pointers regarding this would be welcome.

No-one got any opinions on this?

The reason I'm asking is, if I think the 120.2 will give me same cooling capability as a thinner 360 rad, I'll go with that, and retain one of the HD racks in the bottom of the case. If it fits!

The 240 thicker rad would probably be better. Don't worry too much about fan choice as the thicker rads have wider spaced fins so you won't need a powerfull high CFM fan to pass air through it. The thinner rads such as the xspc/swiftech/HWlabs have closer fins and as such can get away with being 'thin'. Go with whatever suits your case design the best tbh.

The larger rad is usually capable of dissipating more heat. However, if you are going for silence then you should be looking at rads optimized for low-speed fans such as the Themochill PA series, TFC, and XSPC RX series.

If you are just cooling a CPU a 120.2 is plenty....CPU + GPU and a 120.2 will be ok, but ideally you want a 120.3 if it's a modern day GPU and something like a quadcore CPU.

Thanks Webbo.

I didn't know about (or even consider) the fin spacing, although it seems logical now you've mentioned it. I'll measure up for the 120.2 and hope it fits.

Ahhh. It's a Q6600 and GTX280.

In a V2000 though, so if I use a 120.2 and put in a 120.1 elsewhere in the loop, would that give me the cooling capability of a 120.3? Obviously I'd need to get the pump right.

For a quad + a 280 I would definitely go with a 120.3......a 120.2 + a single 120mm should be sufficient as well...just make sure they are good rads and buy a good pump to keep the flow-rate decent. The new DDC 3.25 would be ideal as it has 20ft of head, which is quite good :)

 Thanks. I'll start to look at it based on the extra 120 rad. I know a 120.3 will fit in the bottom of the case with a little modification (as there is an existing thread on one), so that will remain an option if I can't get the 120.2 in the base with one HD cage remaining in place.

$170. What are they likely to be here?

P.S. Does anyone know offhand the head on the DDC1 Ultra 18W? The psi is quoted, but not the head, and I've no idea how they equate. :o
