At the moment im on a 939 x2 3800 with an original artic cooler freezer 64. I'm assuming that the CPU above is OEM? In which case, would my current CPU cooler work on the AM2 platform?

Also, how is the 8800GTS OC like in comparison to the newer cards (specifically ATi). Gaming isnt really a priority anymore, but as i've got a new monitor (2232bw 22"), any gaming i wish to do in the future will need to have something half decent. Really, £100 is about my budget unless there is something else much better for not too much more.

Motherboards, well this looked pretty decent. 2nd hand,b-grade stuff doesnt bother me at all, providing its a good price. £45 for a motherboard isnt too shabby!

Regarding the CPU, a quad is a must, as i do a lot of music processing which is optimised for quad cores. I also do quite a lot of video processing too. A quad for less than £100 is a bargain, even if Intels are superior in the majority of tests. Still, if i can get this to 3ghz, it isnt exactly going to be slow is it? :)

Any recommendations or advice on this spec? Been out of the loop for a wee while!

Thanks. :)

if you want intel

better CPU but at a slight cost to the GPU

That looks like a mighty fine setup to me for that price. You could go for that Abit board jak has specced and a q6600 but it would mostly perform about the same as that phenom while costing £50 more.

For the graphics card, I guess a radeon 4830 would offer around the same level of performance at a similar pricepoint as well. You could save a few more quid by going for a radeon 4670, which is still capable of turning out quite reasonable fps at 1680x1050, although that's maybe a step too far for your liking.

Oh and I think your Freezer 64 pro would fit the new setup, but it may well struggle to cool the phenom especially if you're going to be overclocking it. With all your saved monies you could treat yourself to something more capable though. :)
