Hi. Just seen this Acer Aspire 7520 for £300 - Acer Aspire 7520 Notebook Laptop, AMD 64x2 Dual Core TK55 1.8GHz, 17" TFT, 1024MB RAM(2x512), 80GB Hard-drive, DVD±RW, GeForce7000 Graphics, WiFi, Vista Home Premium

Reviews say its a little slow but if I changed to 2x2g of ram (£18 each @7dayshop) making 4gig of ram.....

what do you think? A good buy for £340 or is this processor old hat? Previous threads had concluded that a core2duo was the way forward but AMD were not mentioned. I know its an old model but would quite like a 17" Im just concerned about the processor.
Hard drive is small but I have a 500g external so its not an issue.
I mainly do photoshop, burning dvd, and www. Very rarely games. Good battery life would be nice though.

Any thoughts welcomed. thanks

Hi,

Its an Acer they are cheap but there support is absolutely abysmal. If anything goes wrong with it you WILL have a nightmare. Trust me i know what im talking about.

Cheers,

I wouldnt and I would pick up an Inspiron 1525 for around the same price with a C2D, wouldnt entertain Vista on that. If you do then defo 3GB of ram and Vista or whack XP on it, dont bother with 4GB unless you intend on Vista 64. Running photoshop CS3 Extended on my lappy (in sig) and it runs a treat but its quite a bit more beefier. Defo at least 2 GB of ram though. Generally i wouldnt go AMD for laptops as they simply are blown out of the water by the C2D, seriously you can pick up an cracking Inspiron for late 300's but of course it would be a 15"

Wouldnt touch an acer again ever, dont remeber the model but it went back about 5 times in 14 months! the last time it came back they said something about a modification thy had to do, the casing had a hump in the middle at the rear - some mod more like a bodge up! and each visit to them wasnt exactly swift either

Seems as if they have lemons for staff as well as laptops :p
