started to upgrade my computer antec case, asus p3q5 deluxe m/b e8400 dual core chip,4gb ocz platinum ddr3 ram 1tb spinpoint hdd.Still have a couple of lesser components stock intel heatsink and fan and a no name 550w psu from my old machine, the problem i'm having is when i run cpu-z it says the cpu voltage is 2.315 is this too high. From what i have read on overclocking 2.1 should be at the normal end of high but this is its stock setting as i havent increased anything yet.Want to get all the peices in place first before i start to have a go at overclocking, need a decent heatsink and fan and a proper psu any ideas on a fan got a ocz modxstream 600w psu in mind.Had a look in the bios and theres quite a bit to play with so will be referring back to the overclocking guide for beginners quite often.Anyone have any tips to lessen this huge learning curve would be most appreciated

That voltage is way too high and is gonna kill your CPU. Get that nasty psu away from your computer first of all, whether or not it's causing this. OCZ 600W sounds like it will be plenty, though you don't mention a gfx card which is the biggeset factor in choosing a psu.

In terms of why the voltage is too high I'm not too sure, but is the cpu overclocked yet? I would think auto vcore would never put it that high.

I was going to answer this but then I realised 2 things.

1. If the cpu was really at 2.315 it would be dead already and his system wouldn't post.

2. At the bottom of his post is says "NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY" so I didn't ;)

dont think i got the 2.315 figure wrong i am at work at the minute will check when i get home.i've got an asus radeon 4850 at the moment but am lookin to upgrade this aswell.Sig changed to lend some credibility to my plight :p

That figure has to be way wrong thats nearly double the voltage of my Q6600

I would be cross checking that with everest and a few other programs like
