This Forum. Why so basic?

Facebook is still hugely popular despite these 'huge' amounts of unhappy people then eh?

Presentation comes in to it, but with a lot of things it's content > presentation.

I like the Overclockers simple, minimalistic look, but I don't think it's beyond discussion. I do love the 'don't like it log out' replies haha!

I guess it's cheap to run a website like this in comparision to a web forum with lots of bells and whistles and features.

Yes it is. Just how many people do you know in your social circle that don't have facebook? For me it's less than 3. I also see my news feed blow up with "OMG FACEBOOK Y U CHANGE THIS" every time something new comes out. Okay maybe a slight exaggeration but i couldn't really think of a suitable word. It doesn't take too much browsing be it on the 'facebook' facebook page, news sites, blogs, reddit etc etc to see lots of people complaining about new features. Now some i don't agree with and are opinion based like layout changes, but the latest one is pretty ridiculous.

As i wrote above though, just what extra content is needed? There really isn't much that separates this from other forums and the things that are different either have alternatives here (trust vs PM) or just aren't necessary.

No decent avatars. I recognise many forum regulars from their avatar as much as their name. It allows for some individuality on forums too. Yes I too hate large avatars and they should be restricted in size. Allow some flexibility though.

I always found it odd that this forum doesn't allow custom avatars (or have any half decent stock avatars) yet allows a wide variety of custom signature images as long as the meet the size/content rules.

ok, for all those that are for the 'like' button, I will explain why I disagree with it.
I use these forums to pass time, get information, and occasionally share some knowledge I may have. I do this because I can and I enjoy it.
I do not however, feel I am missing out by not having anyone that reads a post by me hitting a 'like' but to make me think my post was worthwhile, I am pretty secure within myself that I don't need people to give me an ego boost by clicking 'like'. I mean, what if no one clicks like, should I worry my post had no relevance and maybe consider not posting in the future as my comments are not appreciated?

how bout we add a 'dislike' button too, so that I can vent my annoyance I didn't like something I read? lets make that person feel a little bit bad about their little life. don't want to be bias and just make people feel good.

I know its just my opinion, and if there was this magic like button it would not get pressed, but my life will be no better/worse without the knowledge someone possibly liked what I wrote, I prefer to live in ignorance.

Personally; even though this is irrelevant I know quite a few people that don't have a Facebook page.

I agree people often complain about change, but standing still too long is often worse.

I've not said any new content is needed, I said I enjoy the presentation of the forum  I said the 'don't like it, leave' replies are funny and that discussing changes or why the website remains as is, is as worthy for debate as anything else.

I just thought your comparision to one of the most popular websites I'm aware of, which constantly changes was a silly comparision.

In fact, personally I think it's down to cost. I guess (and that is all it is) that running a website like this is cheaper then one with bells and whistles.

Modern smartphones are able to display full web content so well that using an app for a forum is a waste of time.

Oh god I really hate that thing popping up too! Such an annoyance.

This site loads super quick on mobiles.

How isn't it? I check my emails far more often than I'd look for the tiny icon on forums to see if I have a message. If it wasn't for Trust I wouldn't know I'd mistakenly been given an infraction.

Because most people don't check them every five minutes whereas if they are browsing the forum they will get the message straight away. The are a number of times where it would have been pretty useful (i.e telling somebody something important without posting it for all to see)

I'd like it if they had more up-to-date stuff under the avatar, because at the moment we have: ICQ Number, AIM Screen Name, MSN Messenger Handle, Yahoo! Messenger Handle and Skype name, which are pretty out-dated, not many people use these any more (except skype), some better ones would be: Twitter name, Steam account, Youtube channel etc.

I agree with ICQ (its not 1996 any more) AIM and Yahoo, but MSN is still the most popular chat client the is and Skype is still gaining popularity. TBH though messaging service user names belong in the signature, that's what its actually for lol.
