hey guys,

so the 7970 matrix platinum is on offer atm at 279.99

do you think the 9970 will be worth say 180 more than this card? and performance to value?

cheers

If we knew this, I bet half the forum would be able to stop debating whether to get a 7970 or wait for the new cards ;)

Just worried that I'm missing out on a bar in if the new gen is only say 10-15% faster, in that case I would grab maybe two of these matrix platinums

Only my guess but bang for buck they will both work out about the same.

There was an argument in another thread about which was better the GTX 770 lightning or a GTX 780. If you do the sums 2 x GTX 780s are about the same performance as 3 x GTX 770 lightning's and both options cost about the same.

What is relevant about the above example is you can have 3 smaller cards with SLI scaling problems and less vram, or you can have 2 larger cards with more vram and possibly better SLI scaling.

I think the above will be the case when comparing the new HD9970 with the older HD 7970 matrix platinums.

All this is guesswork so as the other posters say "who knows what the future holds"
