That's such an incredible picture of the eye!
Yea their eyes are only around 0.15mm to 0.5mm diameter.
Her total length is probably only about 4-6mm
for her size it was probably only about 0.35mm shes not the biggest worker I have.
it wasn't even a close up pick really the whole ant was visible, my camera must have just focused at the right depth of field to have her eye detailed.
Whole setup with ruler for scale. (the wires a heat cable)
My lens is too zoomed to get a decent shot, macro 90mm lens :/ too lazy to switch it out. both photos are from like 2 metres away lol...
but there's somewhere between 200-400 or so ants, Impossible to count them or even guestimate really.
Super easy to take care of just need a mix of seeds like Chia, golden flax, Amaranth, poppy, Blue grass, canary, millet seeds and the odd oat kernel or sunflower heart.
a tiny bit of protein like 4mm cube twice a week, if i find a house spider I will drop it in boiling water for 10 seconds to sterilise and let them have it..
other than that they just need a water feeder in the outworld and the nest hydrated every 2 weeks or so.
super simple, they boring and don;t really do anything but grow the colony size.
eventually they do start to grow flying ants the males and females that go to mate and make new colonies, but in captivity they don't get the signal to fly off so they just act like really large workers until the colony decides they aren't worth taking care of.
