According to sky it wont get better.

Are they being truthful?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5462 kbps 606 kbps
Line Attenuation 53.5 dB 28.3 dB
Noise Margin 6.9 dB 15.7 dB

Using the supplied F@st2504n Modem/router.

Can i get a third party modem that allows SNR tweaking and MER?

how lonh have you had sky? DLM has a 10 day training period... at which point it can go up.

if your out of 10 days you may have a stuck profile, call them and ask for the upload to be increased and max delays set to 8.

They cancelled DLM and set it to what it would do max. get 23ms pings to bbc.co.uk

Your attenuation is high considering you are only 200M more distant from the exchange than someone who gets 14000kbps.

If we take those figures 14,000kbps the line length would be approx 2.2km, with your 53.5 Att you are around 3.8km.

So for an extra 200M of physical distance the line either travels an extra 1600M or perhaps your line is not so good.

What you should do is plug the router directly into the BT test socket (remove the master frontplate to do this) and test again. If the attenuation jumps down then you have a problem with your wiring. The test socket is directly connected to the twisted pair coming from the BT line. Extensions and stuff are fitted to the removeable master frontplate so using the test socket bypasses all this. You can also try with and without the filter to see if that makes any difference.

Internal house phone wiring can add significantly to attenuation if there is even a slight fault with it, or if it runs next to interference sources. Just the other day a chap on here had a normal 14,000kbps go down to 2,000kbps after his kid yanked on the phone extension and this has now since gone up to 20,000kbps since bypassing the extension altogether.

Food for thought?
