Bought a AMD64 3500 and a MSI K8N Neo2 off of the MM recently. Its my brothers xmas present.
Finally found some time to start setting it up (he's been occupied with other things!)

It just won't play ball, Its picky about ram, I've got a 2x256 match pair of Corsair, that it doesn't boot with, its also picky with other combinations, and the only stick it consistently works with is the 512 stick of Geil Ultra I had in my server.
It consistantly fails to detect either of the 2 keyboards I have tried.
And finally, after installing the NF3 chipset drivers from the nVidia site it won't even boot into windows.

Have I done something stupid? Or does the board sound dead? :(

Are there any known issues with the neo2 with Newcastle core chips and certain brands of ram?
The 350 watt psu seems to be working fine, its an unbranded one but the volts are staying stable, and its nice and cool, and I can't see it being that causing any of the issues.

Any help would be great.

I used to have an K8neo board and I had to RMA it 3 times, and 2 times it killed my Crucial memory thankfully I got them replaced under warranty.

In the end I went and bought myself the cheap and cheerfull Asrock 939 dual sata board and all my parts which I recycled from the K8neo been working fine.

Never had any problems though installing the nvidia drivers and it stopping windows from loading. Also if its that picky about the RAM it sounds a bit on the dodgy side.

Can you send it back and get yourself another mobo?

I promised myself never to get another MSI board as the RMA times was really bad, and a new board shouldn't fail 3 times during its first year.

If you can't get the keyboard working how did you install windows? Are you trying a PS2 or USB kbs? It's a fresh install right?

I can't imagine there would be any problems with newcastles and Corsair is the most compatible ram there is. Does the RAM pass memtest on another PC? Have you tried flashing to the latest BIOS? You've tried clearing the CMOS right?

Have you tried a different PSU? Might be worth doing so you can completely rule that out.

The keyboard is temperamental. I have to fiddle around with it in the ps2 port, sometimes it detects, sometimes it doesn't. I installed windows with it detecting fine :)

Will test the ram, check bios and try my psu in it later. Hopefully that should get me somewhere.

If you have to "fiddle" about to get it working and its the same with more than one keyboard it sounds like your board is a bit dodgy.
