Bush added, "The United States will help the people of Cuba realize the blessings of liberty."

The Bush administration has tightened the four-decades-old U.S. embargo on the island, increased Radio Marti news broadcasts into Cuba, curtailed visits home by Cuban-Americans and limited the amount of money Cuban-Americans can send to relatives.

sauce

I'm sorry but the irony of this necessitated a post.

what was going to happen?

Rice discussing post castro cuba or bush tightening his embargo?

Will the US eventually drop the embargo or continue until the country is run into the ground?

Given that the embargo is over 40 years old I can't see much changing to be honest.

Castro will still be involved and the Cuban foreign policy is hardly going to change overnight.

Changes in US policy towards Cuba in a post-Castro administration.

Depends on the administration, can't see them changing their stace much if his brother is in power!

I believe the Americans are still officially commited to returning the land in cuba to it's pre revolution owners and there decendants which seems to me to mean they will be diametrically oposed to any future government unless Cuba has a leader who wants to reduce the standard of living in the country to what it was 50 years ago.

The oval office.

Ok guys lets make another unstable terrorist nation, or at least try our best we will tighten our grip until Cuba falls apart.

Cuba
Say nothing much, why?, they jut sit back and let the USA make its self worse, if it ever could but they have as much credibility in the international stage as smallpox.

Cuba should have been left alone at the end of the cold war but the bay of pigs gave the USA a bloody nose it will not forget. If Castro pro governments continue in Cuba so will the US embargo and muscle flexing.

Damn straight.

The US bears some responsibility for making Cuba what she is today - and that includes the Castro regime.

And no one said the Castro pro state is right it cannot be right but the USA prevents change by the embargo. If Cuba had no embargo it may grow with better economic and trade ties then change may follow as it has elsewhere. The USA makes the Castro pro state keep a firm grip on its people by making them feel like victims of the USA. The only way the USA could succeed is by a bloody coup or civil war when allowing the cuban people prosperity could lessen and even end the Castro pro grip with plain economics and no blood-loss.
