This is what pit stops should be like...

MORE pitstop practice on the agenda today, the guys have made it into the sub-3 second range to change a set of tyres!

Thats more like it. :D All we need to do now is life the speed limit in the pits to something more sensible and pitstops will great again. *yay!*

While a stop takes 25 seconds from pit entry to exit there's too much strategy revolving around them rather than actual racing...

Pit stops should be awesome but I don't agree about the speed limit; think it is right as it is. Mistakes are still made (hitting pit crew) and very close calls with other cars. Think if it was raised it would be too dangerous.

I don't remember many people running over pit crew or colliding with other cars when it was 200mph in the pit lane.

I think because the speeds have come down they have become more blasé about releasing cars and getting in close when they are pulling in.

Interesting. Was wondering whether the pitstops without refuelling would be like the pre-refuelling days where some teams would consistently be better at them than others or whether they'd all be so well drilled that they'd all be about as good as each other. I remember McLaren used to be able to bank on gaining 1/2 a second in the pits over just about anyone.

I don't see there being as much difference as before, simply because everyone is now used to doing regular well drilled stops. What I think we might see though is some innovation in how the stop is done.

Getting the jacks on and off is one area that I expect will see a lot of focus. We've already seen pneumatic front jacks which allow the jack man to drop the car while standing to one side but the rear jack is still hooked under the rear crash structure. I fully expect someone to develop something which is less likely to remain attached to the car in the event of a premature getaway.

On the other hand the wheel men have got used to being able to take their time as the length of the stop has been dictated by the amount of fuel going in. Suddenly they've got to up their game and do the job as quickly as possible again.

Too fast in the pits is very dangerous. I wouldn't like to see the speed increased at all.

But going slowly in the pit lane has made it so much safer... :D ;)

They can only use manual jacks in the pitlane now.

23) PIT LANE
23.1 c) Powered devices which assist in lifting any part of a car are forbidden in the pit lane during a race.

You are trying to tell me that each tyre team was not racing the people opposite in every pit stop??

I think there is scope to increase the speed limits, as said, a two stage limit might work.

Come on, part of the fun is the danger factor, that's why it is so boring these days.

I want 1400BHP cars driving 150+MPH in the pitlane going for a 5-stopper on ultra soft tyres

There's been too many slower speed accidents in the last 10 years to even consider increasing the speed. The pitlane has more people and more equipment than when they did it before.

If they could clear the pitlane and not allow the pitcrew near the car until the car was in the 'box' then by all means up the limit.

:p I can see it now. Car comes in and stops in the pit.
Where's the pit crew? Still sitting inside not aware of anyone coming in.

I'm sure it happened at least once in the past season as it was where a car came in but no crew were standing waiting. (or tyres weren't ready, can't remember which)

Not like Kovalainen drove off with his fuel hose attached too. Oh wait, you must have forgotten that one, it was McLaren that it happened to,not Ferrari.

My digs as Massa are only a laugh :)

Yep like they do in A1GP.
