Installed my E8400 and loaded Windows 7 (untill Vista arives).

Ran CPU-Z and my clock speed was at 2000Mhz...is that right or?

Used Biostars V8 OC setting in bios, its now at 2100Mhz...

First question, is it a borked chip?
Second is it 'cos its idle?

It'll be because it's idle. Speedstep is on

Open SuperPI (or anything remotely demanding) and CPU-Z and see if the CPU clock increases with the CPU usage.

Intel Burn Test good? And is Intel Burn Test good for testing an OC?

It'll really create some heat. If you haven't got sufficient cooling, it'll show when you use this test.

I just used Orthos and my clock went up to 3150Mhz and temp rose to a MAHOOSIVE 37C...

So will IBT make temps go EVEN higher?

I get an extra 10-15 degrees core temp on an E8400 with IBT compared to orthos beta.
What are you using to monitor temps?

Speedfan.

But i created a monitoring device in LCD Studio for my G15, got %Ram i use, Winamp tracks, Time/DAte, GPU+CPU temps and CPU usage graph all on 1 screen.

Its now sat steady at 3.6Ghz hitting 47-48C on Orthos...

Is this good?

All i did was crank it up from 333 to 400 in Bios...how much further until i can hit the coverted 4Ghz or 4.2??
