I'll give you my fresh opinion, having got a PS3 today, and having owned a 360 since last christmas.

The 360 does have a better game line up, but it isn't making all the difference. a lot of great games ( including the best, COD4 ) are multi-plat and unless your a serious, serious gamer they will be enough aswell as a few exclusives to tide you over till the next batch come out.
I found the graphics on PS3 noticebly better ( PS3 HDMI vs 360 VGA/component ) on the direct comparisons i had ( Fifa 08, PES 2008 and COD4 ) but i can't speak forthe elite that may have equal/better graphics to the PS3.
The PS3 as a piece of hardware made he 360 look ridiculous. It is better looking, better built, quieter, better controller's and felt a lot more slick as a whole. The whole family enjoyed the picture viewing from the SD card slot.

So far the PS3 is looking the better console but i found the one area it really didn't match up at was the online system. Live out performs it in almost everyway ( execpt the dedicated servers of the PS3 reduced lag ) and to top it off most of my friends have 360's, those that have PS3's don't have PSN.

For those last 2 reasons i'm seriously considering taking them both back and getting an xbox elite.

Your situation may be different though, if the online system isn't as much of a big deal to you and your friends aren't all 360, i would probably reccommend the PS3. Just grab those good expensive Logitech wheel/pedals, buronout paradise/GT HD/NFS pro street/heavenly sword/prevo and fifa and your set. Then next year you get devil may cry/metal gear/GT5/final fantasy and it gets better.

Hope i helped a little, i ws in the same situation before and still am a little now. :(

There is something about the PS3 that just feels so much better then the 360 though....

As an owner of neither console (Except the Wii), I'm in the same position as you. Currently my vote is firmly in the 360 camp. Reasons:

XBOX Live (Superior multiplayer)

XBOX Live Arcade (And all the games that are on it!)

Forza 2
PGR 4
Halo 3
Halo Wars
Assasins Creed
Mass Effect
Gears of War
Perfect Dark Zero
BioShock
Oblivion
GR: Advanced Warfighter 1 + 2

Unfortunately so far the PS3 has only two exclusive games (Out now and upcoming) that I want to play: Warhawk and GT5.

Im just waiting on the cash coming my way now. :)

PS3 is the better product £ for £.

You get a lot more for your money.

Well ps3, blu-ray inclusive, and no need to buy a hd-dvd drive. ALso doesn't sound like a jet taking off so will mean you still have hearing in 10 years time.

Btw i have a ps3, brother got a 360 elite today and sis got a wii. 360 online is sublime, and COD 4looks awesome, but im sitll not afan of the pad, and some of the PS3 exclusives are sensational. PLus the blu-ray player never ceases to amaze me.

Right time for some major lash, ina bit.

anyone know if the elite is quieter at all? I thought the elite is using a cooler chip?

Also - with an elite will i still have to buy the wireless addon - doesnt say on xbox.com.

It is not the fans that cause most the the noise, its the DVD-rom.

I think what it boils down to in your situation is, do you want to play Forza/PGR or Gran Turismo?

On the RPG Front are you going to want to play Mass Effect or Final Fantasy?

From what I've seen Pro Evo 08 sucks on both the 360 and PS3 so that wouldn't really matter, might be better to either go for Fifa or wait for the next Pro Evo.

What I'm trying to say is it really boils down to what franchises interest you on each of the consoles.

I have both get the 360 now and enjoy all the fantastic selection of games out for it and enjoy playing on live and haveing a laugh.

Get a ps3 in a years time maybe when there is something worth playing on it or if you want a cheap blue-ray player buy it for that.

I was round a mates the other day and he's got a silent pc (w/c) and a pretty quiet projector.

He recently got a 360 elite and I joined him for a few rounds of cod4 online, which is great fun but I found very hard to get to grips with (lack of fps console gaming in general on my part).

While the game loads a map or when on the dashboard you could hear the 360 way over anything else which was quite amazing as I didn't think it was that loud - I wouldn't like to try watching an HD-DVD through it ...

now that the xbox360 and PS3 are getting games released for both systems and both are much the same on either then its down to exclusives and what you like exclusive wise and if you want a built in movie format player or a pay as you view online download service and then if you want a noisy machine or near enough silent machine along with do you want wired or free wireless and wired options and to round it off if you want to pay for a online servce or play for free of which both work well

LOL!!!

(Oh yeah and NokkunWud, I know there are less reasons to get a 360 over a PS3 these days, but don't regurgitate the cost arguement from months ago :D there has been a price drop, or some shizzle... ).
