Play and Charge kits are not forced either though, i didnt have one for the first year, just used batteries (pound shop w00t) and i had a wired controller.

Energizer rechargeable's here, 4 in the charger 2 in the pad. :p I don't intend on buying the play and charge kit either :D But still, It's a peripheral some choose to buy. Which adds to their total cost.

To be honest, I don't know anyone other than my tech head junkie friend who owns the HD DVD drive for the 360 either! :D

He stated in his original post that those features where of no interest to him. The point of this thread was to debate whats best for the OP not yourself.

To the OP, if you dont require those features at all or in the future then there really isn't a need to go Ps3 in my opinion. The games you have listed are all 360 games so why bother spending the extra?

To be honest, I think the thread derailed just a tad :P

IMO, Get a 360, Games catalogue is huge, HD-DVD Media is an extra if you decided to get it.

Make sure when buying you get a new build though. :)

I just joined in debating with everyone else in this thread lol, Missing the OP entirely! PS3 is a great system, And definitely something you should own. But right now 360, Is for me the console to own, If you are only going to have 1.

A lot of games (the guitar heroes, PGR4, GRAW to name but a few) suffer terrible slow down as well, which is something that gets hurled at the PS3 but never mentioned on the 360..

Never had a hint of slowdown on pgr4 or Graw, havent played GH games much.

Ubisoft haven't played as much Graw as me and I've not once had slowdown.

I dont need to.

I was merely doing what most others do.

But for the sake of argument:
Its a better console and always has been.
The 360 is poorly built, unreliable and noisy. It peripherals are expensive for what they are, it has a large selection of games, but a large proportion of them are utter dross.
Out of the THREE replacement consoles i've had all three skip and jump during DVD playback, randomly crash playing games, give up "disc cannot be read" errors and sound like they are going to eat the discs.

The PS3 on the other hand is virtually silent compared to the 360, has Wireless, harddrive, bluray and blue tooth out the box, plays DVD's and the vast majority of Blu ray movies from around the world flawlessly, its games library is growing day by day and apart from a handfull of particularly lazy ports perform just as well as the 360 versions.

Those are the facts.

Those are the facts from your experiance, where as i've not had any disc jumping whilst watching a dvd, hardly ever crashes when playing game & i've only had ''disc cabbot be read'' a couple of times and i've owned a 360 from launch. Yes we all now it's poorly built but MS have a replacement system in place at no cost to you anyway. Also the PS3 is rather loud once the fans kick in a full speed, i was watching a dvd last night on mine and i found the noise highly annoying. The fact is the 360 has a lot more AAA/good games out at this moment in time, and no doubt the PS3 will catch up but that could be a year or 2 from now anyway.

As for the slowdown i've rarely seen any on the 360 and it's well known the ps3 counter parts suffers a lot more slowdown(but the developers have had more time to get used to the 360 hardware)

On the 360, I've never had DVD problems either, No read disk errors and the only slow down I've had are in things like Oblivion and Mass Effect, When I get cornered by say 6 or more creatures, While using magic plus whatever else they decide to use against me. :p

For those arguing price, the Arcade is available for £149 and the PS3 £279, that's a £130 difference then. Not a very good comparison though, a premium would be a fairer one I think. If you just want games and nothing else (no hdd, no wifi etc) then the Arcade is probably for you.

The PS3 is definetly the best value for money at its current price, I dont think anyone could argue otherwise.

With a huge back catalogue of cheap games the 360 is an enticing prospect, i play mine about equally now.

I wouldnt be without one or the other, id say you should really buy both, after all, its only money and you cant put a price on fun, can you?

woo its getting juciy ;P

Just picked up a Toshiba 32C3030 from currys, bargain price of £400.

http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/televisions/lcd/product.asp?model=32hl67u

very impressed, however didnt pick up an xbox just yet, as currys wouldnt give me the games i wanted even though i was gonna pay cash, so gonna go into preston later and go to hmv and game station as both have some good elite bundles going.

edit: lol just noticed its full hd 1080p. even more impressed!

It wont be 1080p, it might accept a 1080p signal, but not true 1080p.

how do i tell? Im assuming the res needs to be 1920x1680? or whatever? its not by the way :p

edit:

HDMI Input Support 1080p 60/24Hz
HDMI Input PC Support VGA/480i/480p/720p/1080i/1080p

thats what it says in the manual.

To be full 1080p the res needs to be 1920x1080, yours is 1366x768, same thing as mine, it accepts a 1080p 24 signal, but downscales it.

myself was in the similar position a while ago, the PS3 is the superior console technially but the games are rubbish at the moment. What made me get the ps3 is that my mates 360 is as loud as my dyson (and has since 3red lights) and he had to buy a 40-50quid wireless adapter AND had to pay a fee to go online with it. If you want HD films get a PS3, if not a 360:)

gotcha.

Game has some good deals on elites, but the thing thats still slightly holding me back is id need to buy a wireless adapter aswell, unless i can use one of the network cards in my pc to share the wireless connection its connected to ??

How is it superior? the ps3 can be rather loud also when the fan kicks in at full speed, he doesn't want HD films, he wants a gaming system and the 360 wins hands down at this moment in time

plays high def films (inbuilt), has wireless (inbuilt), online is free and the console itself is more powerful, and they dont overheat and break. having said that i never use my ps3 and want a 360 as it has good games

He doesn't care about HD movies, he wants it for games. How is the console more powerful?developers have stated the ps3 is a **** to programme games for and iirc the cpu is better on the ps3 but the gpu is more powerful on the 360,and from the multi format games out mostly the 360 versions run better  as for live i'd rather pay £28 and get an excellent service unlike the ps3s shoddy service(at this moment in time, no doubt it will be improved)

You cannot say the console is more powerful, there is nothing to prove this to be the case.

Loads of 40gb ones have been breaking recently due to cost cutting exercise by sony in the consoles, its undoubtedly a better package, but there is nothing to suggest that it is technically superior.

I have a ps3 and 360. If you want a machine purely for gaming (as a console should be imho) the 360 wins easily. My ps3 has been on about 10 times at the most in the last 6 months, my 360 get use daily.
Really don't like the way the ps3 is setup, it feels tacky and cheap compared to live.

Im considering selling the ps3, unless it drastically improves in the next few months, im fed up with it sat there doing nothing, I was hoping pro evo 2008 would save it but thats pants on it too.

you cannot say the ps3 has a shoddy online serice, lol, it does the job just as well as Live for playing games online, infact Live has had more issue's with going down than PSN since Halo3 came out.
