This message has been removed from public view

Nearly started a thread about this myself.

Probably a forum software upgrade which now displays the message where it didn't before.

Either that or the Mods are more strict or a sudden increase in unnecessary posts.

Hope it's the former, although the frequency of intervention suggests otherwise.

Probably an add-on rather than an upgrade. I would assume it's been introduced to prevent further "where's my post gone" threads.

I wonder what parameters have to be met for a post to be hidden from view? Test - Transgender Muslim cleric opens museum celebrating life of Gary Glitter.

The thread about the person killed by falling window has a plague of them, the mods must have given up with the rash of bad taste posts,
the thread was eventually locked.

If I remember correctly, it means that the mods have decided that the message probably needs to be deleted, but rather than doing so, they can 'hide' posts, which allows other mods to still see the post in context.

I was wondering about this, was half tempted to post in the FCD and ask if someone had changed some setting by mistake and whether we should be seeing these posts.

I'd assumed they were the deleted posts and that that is what the mods saw when they view the threads, albeit they'd have the ability to view the posts too.

Rather than being a new feature, it's an old feature which we lost when we moved to Xenforo. It's nice to have it back again so people can actually see why posts have been deleted.

Not bad taste, just good old British gallows humour.

I'd argue that the humour could pass if someone does something incredibly stupid and dies, like a Darwin Award, however that poor chap just died for no reason at all, so the humour is misplaced. Imo.

Indeed, it's actually for the benefit of you guys so you can see why posts were removed rather than just left guessing (or wondering if you're going mad!)

That only works if the reason is given :)

I've seen a few where it says post is hidden: no reason given.

Surely that would only work if a reason for deletion was given, the vast majority of them seem to say "No reason given".

Because there has been no public display, we've got out of the habit of adding a reason when we delete a post so this is something for us to pick back up on.
