This or wait for Haswell [Spec]

Just an upgrade for someone, ideally he doesn't want to spend more than £500 so this is bang on budget. Would I be able to get the same spec and same price if I waited for Haswell? He already got a case and a EVGA GT 640.

Yea waiting is no problem, he is only planning to buy it beginning of June anyway. He requested 2 DVD drives so that's why I included them in the spec :)

this friend of yours, doesnt have an eye patch or a wooden leg right? :)

2+ DVD drives is handy for burn verification, or if you want to use one of films and keep the other free for games (although I can't really remember the last game I bought that had to use a disk - yay for Steam).

Back to the original question, as Haswell is only a few weeks away, I'd wait for it :)

was only kidding, i myself have 2 burners in my current system. Definitely useful to have them!

I would also advise waiting for haswell too. Its launching on June 3/4 with availability likely to be immediate. its a new socket so give you a little extra life if broadwell can be accommodated when its released. With socket 1155 its a complete dead end. If there is no intention for upgrades then maybe 1155 could be considered.

also forgot to mention yes you should be able to get same spec for same-ish price with haswell since haswell will be replacing i5 at roughly the same price point. I doubt the Ivy chips will go down in price much. Maybe only a little if retailers have excess inventory and need to clear

If you have the patience I would sit it out and wait for the reviews surrounding Haswell and then go for it. It would be a shame to spend money and then be stuck without an upgrade path at a later date.

Yea waiting for Haswell seems to be the best option. If he doesn't fancy the higher price if it differs much then can always get the 3570k which is great anyways.

He usually uses one to burn stuff and the other just to watch DVD's, he brings back films from Hong Kong quite often since he travels there also his dad appreciates the Cantonese subtitles on the movies lol :D.
